Michael Schenker Group

London Mean Fiddler

May 21st 2006

Review & Photos - Southern Correspondents

All people could talk about prior to this gig was which Michael Schenker would turn up. With 30 years of high's & low's behind him it was anybody's guess. Although when the band first came on stage it was hard to see whether it was Michael or brother Rudolph who had actually turned up as they seem to be morphing into one person.

New singer Jari soon proved to be a  welcome addition to the fold with a strong powerful voice which was ideally to the MSG/UFO classics as well as the new album tracks featured throughout the show. With the added bonus of a Gary Barden's guest appearance it was clear it was going to be a special show. At this point special mention should be made of bass player Rev who proved an imaginative & skilled player which included an Eleanor Rigby bass solo!

The band played as a tight unit but at the same time really seemed to be having fun, no one more than Michael himself who was smiling at the crowd most of the evening. As to be expected all the Schenker classics were included in the set, 'Armed & Ready', 'Ready to Rock', 'Into the Arena', 'Too Hot to Handle' & 'Only You Can Rock Me' making appearances during the main set before they eventually encored' with the classic Doctor Doctor' which saw the band rejoined on stage by Gary Barden & also members of the support bands for a rip roaring rendition. The night was completed by a crowd pleasing version of 'Rock Bottom' which sent everyone home happy & satisfied.

Added to the show itself was the bonus of Schenker signing autograph's at the merchandise stall as the crowd left which had been advertised prior to the gig starting so in answer to the opening statement as to which Michael would show up -  Difficult German guitarist NOT tonight !
