Evile

Manchester Virgin Megastore

August 27thth 2007

Review & Photos  - John Consterdine

Its August Bank Holiday weekend and whilst most people may have been heading to the bright lights of the Reading and Leeds festivals, a small number of loyal thrashers, just under a hundred or so, crammed into the basement of Manchester's Virgin Megastores for the launch of the new Evile album, “Enter the Grave”.

Taking to the stage, the band Matt, Ol, Mike and Ben, proceeded to lay waste to said basement, filling the air with their brand of good old fashioned, aggressive, in your face thrash metal. Kicking off proceedings with the aptly titled “Thrasher”, Evile sounded like the Slayer of Huddersfield. Tearing through a set that consisted entirely of tracks from the new album, Evile managed to impress thrash fans ranging in age from 15 to 50, every song giving you the energy to go ten rounds with Mike Tyson. Highlight, well the album’s title track, “Enter the Grave” proved the perfect song with which to end with and, quite simply, is a fantastic thrash number. Not only did the band aurally assault those brave enough to enter the basement but, once the playing was done, they then stuck around and signed everything put in front of them, from CD’s to coats. Evile are definitely, defiantly the new British kings of the thrash revival, make sure you catch them before they catch you
