Soundstone
Review Ian Sutherland
|
Irish band Soundstone declare themselves to be hard drinking, hard touring, raw, filthy and full of spunk and, judging by the opening track on their debut EP “Still I Wake”, I believe them! It’s a fist pumping anthem with a pounding beat, a great big riff and a chorus that gets in your head after only a couple of plays. With ballsy but melodic vocals and a nice guitar solo on top, this is a great choice of single and a nice attention getter for the start of the CD. Next track “Good For The Soul” starts with some guitar feedback and then brings in another cracking riff, reminiscent to these ears of Rocket To The Crypt’s “On A Rope”, but the pace of the song slows after the scintillating start and the chorus feels like a let down by the time you get to it. There ARE some nice touches within this and the final song on the EP “I Have Strayed”, particularly in the use of two guitars to counterpoint each other and a kind of nice groove to the music similar to AC/DC in places but ultimately the promise of “Still I Wake” isn’t fulfilled by the other two songs. I’m sure this band have more than one great song in them though and they definitely have the kind of sound which will get them noticed in a live setting. I hope to catch them on stage one day and see them in all their raw, filthy, spunky glory! Contact: www.myspace.com/soundstonerock |
