Sound Stripe

Review Xan Holbrook

Ah, the joys of Experimentation. And what better example than of Manchester’s very own Sound Stripe. Formed two years ago under the name Ex Nihilo, these supremely accomplished musicians’ sound fuses Blues, Brit-Rock and Punk Rock to form a stomping, bulldozing monster of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

The Debut EP ‘Something out of Nothing’ exploded on the Manchester Scene like a Grenade in Eric Clapton’s Strat. A crafty name change or two later, The new single ‘Ordinary Man’ sees the band turning up the volume and upping the tempo in spectacular style. From the brilliant drum intro to the final explosion of Guitar, drum and bass, the band never lays off from its constant march-and-mosh rhythm and a tempo as infectious as the bubonic plague.

Paul Wright’s brilliant guitar and hoarse vocals, on top of a brilliant bass and drum collaboration, coupled with a relentless rhythm guitar provided by Matt Hall, provide a noise which packs more of a punch than Muhammad Ali and Joe Frasier. Ultimately, this is one single that you definitely shouldn’t pass up on and one band you mustn’t miss. How Sound Stripe are still unsigned is a mystery and the sooner they are snapped up, the better.
