Exit Avenue

Review Dean Pedley

A five piece pop-punk-electronica band from Hertfordshire it would be all too easy to dismiss Exit Avenue as merely a poor imitation of Enter Shikari without the screams. However the songs here actually stand up pretty well to repeated listening and there is a genuine sense of sparkle and urgency about this band that, given the right time and attention, should see them shake off their detractors and begin to establish their own identity.

With a US visit already behind them and a host of UK dates lined up over the coming months, Exit Avenue could well be a name you will be hearing a lot more of throughout 2008. Lead song ‘Gotta Get Out’ is tight, catchy and well structured and seems ready made to ensure plenty of airplay; ‘Huntington Drive’ and ‘Sweet Sixteen’ are similarly impressive and only ‘Better Off Alone’ comes off as somewhat lightweight when compared with what has gone before. The guitars could do with being a bit higher in the mix but this is something easily put right; overall this is a very enjoyable release from a band that are well worth checking out.
