Exalt Cycle

Review Dean Pedley

A blend of nu-metal and hardcore (rapcore maybe?), this four track EP serves as a good introduction to this Italian four piece who were formed in Milan back in 2006. Leaving aside the matter of the individual band names (‘Wolverine’ on guitar???) this is a decent enough effort with some crisp and clear vocals and solid instrumentation.

Exalt Cycle are clearly influenced by bands such as Papa Roach and Limp Bizkit with the added inclusion of some didgeridoo courtesy of frontman Zack. In spite of the language barrier the lyrics translate rather well and come across as well intentioned even if, on occasion, lacking in any real originality. But it is with the music that the band really score and there is some impressive riffing to be found courtesy of the previously mentioned Wolverine, notably on the stand out track ‘Monkey’, and the energetic rhythm section of Andre and Balo makes for a powerful foundation throughout.

Exalt Cycle play a date in Sheffield in March and will be back in the UK in May; the full dates and info can be found at www.exaltcycle.net
