Cypher

Review John Consterdine

Hailing from London, this young quartet has musical talent but, as for standing out from a crowd, that they certainly lack. Mixing together elements of Prog, Industrial, Death Metal, Thrash and Classic British Metal, the music works quite well, but the vocals however are certainly nothing special, sounding very quiet and very melodic, not in a good way though, even when evened out with some half decent growls.

Opening track “Symphony To End All” is rather poor, however “Superdancr” does showcase an interesting mix of weird sounds along with some pounding guitar riffs, a bit like Nine Inch Nails if you will blended with Load era Metallica. “Technics – Rejection Of Induction“ and “…And The Forces Threw Him Across The Room” also show some musical evolution and improvement, with the latter especially being a metallic stomp mixed with elements of early Iron Maiden. Overall though Cypher need to vastly improve before they can move on!
