Black Dove

Review Xan Holbrook

If you’ve ever had one of those MySpace days of browsing the music section – as I often do – there are many cringe-worthy acts; but whenever I go on Rancid’s page, I always uncover such brilliant artists, such as this lot.

Black Dove’s self produced EP is surprisingly high quality for a bedroom release and the sound is unique in its subtle blend of British Indie with So-Cal Pop-Punk, not to mention the English lyrics (That’s Right, ENGLISH) are more comprehensible than most of the whining idiots on America’s west coast. The lyrical content is quite run-of-the-mill and some elements of the sound are nothing new, but they nevertheless work extremely well together and put a new twist on a worn out formula.

Looks like our boring, repetitive indie scene is finally under threat from our buddies across the puddle – And our companions across the pond should be quaking in their boots at this fresh batch of musicians.
