Belladonna, an Italian band formed during February 2005 in Rome even have their own place on Wikipedia entry (from whence much of this information comes from.) According to said entry the current line up includes co-founders Luana (lead vocals) and Dani (guitar), as well as Alice (piano), Tam (bass), and Alex (drums).
 
With Metaphysical Attraction Belladonna have, allegedly, defined a new genre of music: rocknoir. Exploring such themes as murder, mystery, reincarnation, and magic, Belladonna quickly found a fan base on MySpace with the band receiving thousands of plays of the sample tracks they had uploaded. Indeed by 2006 Belladonna’s music had become so popular that they were the most played unsigned Italian band on MySpace.
 
Metaphysical Attraction is, indeed, a remarkably mature piece of work. It’s fully formed with a very professional sounding production and the obvious focal point is the lead singer Luana. She doesn’t sound as obviously European as some of her counterparts, at times sounding somewhat like say a Kate Bush or Emilie Autumn and this will undoubtedly hold the band in good stead for the future.
 
In the UK they’ve had good reviews from NME (but we won’t hold that against them), RockSound and Fireworks who all appear to dig the dark themes that are portrayed in the songs and this may lead one to suspect that Belladonna have hopped aboard the female fronted gothic bandwagon, but far from it. I don’t for one minute think that they have invented a new genre but they do play some pretty solid (hard-ish) rock music that is well worth checking out. Also worth checking out is their place on YouTube @ www.youtube.com/BelladonnaTV where you can see the rather fine video for the equally fine Mystical Elysian Love and Black Swan.
 
Belladonna won’t remain unsigned for long I’ll wager and seem very much like a band that should thrive especially in mainland Europe.
