Iron Maiden Death On The Road DVD |
 |
Iron
Maiden have now confirmed the release date
of their much anticipated DVD release Death
On The Road for 6th February 2006 through
EMI Records. This will initially be
available as a limited edition special
digipack.
The DVD package contains the full
performance of their ‘Dance of Death Tour’
in December 2003. Filmed at the
Westenfalenhalle Arena, Dortmund the show
has been personally edited by founder band
member Steve Harris, to fully capture the
magnificent stage production and to cut
right to the heart and the electricity of
the bands’ performance. Over a four month
period Steve made thousands of edits, thus
ensuring he was personally happy with every
single shot included!
Says Steve Harris, 'We realise that the fans
have been made to wait a little longer than
planned for the DVD to come out but as they
know - we won't settle for anything but the
best and the extra time and effort spent in
the final production of this DVD should be
apparent. I can safely say that when people
see songs like 'Paschendale' and 'Dance Of
Death' their jaws will hit the floor as mine
did when I saw the final product on my TV at
home. With visuals like this and the show
played in 5.1 on a decent system it's just
like being in the front rows of the show.'
To ensure top quality and to avoid any
compromise in reproducing the very best
possible sound and picture quality, the band
have taken the unprecedented step of making
the full concert available on two separate
discs – one with full traditional stereo
soundtrack and the other with specially
mixed 5.1 sound by Kevin 'Caveman' Shirley –
which along with the special features disc
makes three discs in all.
Says Harris, 'I felt it important that this
was done as we didn't want to be restricted.
By having two seperate discs I was happy in
knowing that neither picture nor sound
quality would be compromised in any way. We
are aware that many fans don't yet have
access to 5.1 sound and still use stereo but
if you put both sound beds on one disc with
the concert a fair amount of visual quality
can be lost due to the massive amount of
information that needs storing. As this was
quite a dark and theatrical show we refused
to allow this to happen! However, so our
fans aren't paying extra for a disc they may
never use, we have arranged with EMI that
the pricing will be the same as ‘Rock in
Rio’ which was a 2 disc package. This way
everyone gets the best possible quality show
visually with the sound fully compatible for
their system at no extra cost at all.'
The special features disc contains an
exclusive documentary directed by Matthew
Amos who also directed the bands’ award
winning ‘Early Days’ documentary. It's an
insight into the production of the ‘Dance of
Death’ album from its writing and recording
through to the detail in what it takes to
get a massive show like Maiden on the road.
Says manager Rod Smallwood, 'The documentary
is something quite special for the fans as
it really is a very revealing portrait of
how Maiden work together during recording,
and it took me weeks to persuade them to let
the cameras into the recording studio.
Previously they'd never allowed any of this
to be filmed but this time we decided to
have a camera floating around to try and
capture the Maiden recording process. A lot
of it was filmed by Kevin Shirley and the
band themselves. I think it's a great
representation of the talent, effort and
humour of a Maiden recording session. The
documentary also covers what it takes to set
up a major world tour and has various
interviews with our Killer Krew and
hopefully it will be as insightful and
interesting as the well received ‘Early
Days’ documentary footage which Matthew also
directed.
As usual we have crammed as much as possible
into the DVD with a host of extras including
all of the promo videos from the album,
background interviews with members of the
production crew and fans during the tour,
artwork, design sketches and photo
galleries. Many hours of Maiden mayhem with
a total running time of over three hours –
and that's just the special features'.
The band are now taking a well deserved
break following their hugely successful
touring schedule this year, having headlined
virtally every major festival in Europe
including Reading and Leeds here in the UK,
as well as taking the USA by storm on this
year's Ozzfest bill. Preparations for the
next studio album (their 14th) will begin in
February next year with recording commencing
in the Spring of 2006.
The full set list from the show is:
Wildest Dreams, Wrathchild, Can I Play With
Madness, The Trooper, Dance Of Death,
Rainmaker, Brave New World, Paschendale,
Lord of The Flies, No More Lies, Hallowed Be
Thy Name, Fear Of The Dark, Iron Maiden,
Journeyman, The Number Of The Beast & Run To
The Hills

Astoria a day later on January 26th.
Former
Asia colleagues John Wetton & Geoff

looks set to be a double release, will

Dragonforce Sign To Roadrunner Records |
 |
Dragonforce have inked a deal with
Roadrunner Records which will cover releases
for the UK, France, Australia and New
Zealand.
The truly multi-national London-based outfit
is fronted by South African-born frontman ZP
Theart and completed by drummer David
Mackintosh, Ukrainian keyboardsman Vadim
Pruzhanov and the twin-guitar assault of
Herman Li and New Zealander Sam Totman. Hong
Kong-born Li was the recent winner of 2005's
Metal Hammer Awards' Dimebag Darrell Award
for Best Guitarist.
"We are very excited about signing to
Roadrunner and look forward to working with
one of the most respected rock labels in the
world" said Li. "This will give us the
opportunity to take the band to the next
level and beyond!"
2005 was a stellar year for Dragonforce in
their mission to take on the world and
establish themselves as one of the UK's most
successful and notorious metal bands. They
shared festival stages with Iron Maiden and
played a sell-out headlining tour of the UK,
generating scenes of utter pandemonium.
Bouts of intensive touring to accompany the
band's two albums to date - 'Valley Of The
Damned' in January 2003 and 2004's 'Sonic
Firestorm' - saw their fan-base escalate
dramatically and the word spread like
kerosene-fuelled wildfire across the press.
The band have been swamped with accolades
from all the respected metal titles with
many journalists falling under the band's
spell.
Against all the odds, Dragonforce have
single-handedly revitalised power metal in
their UK homeland, awarding credibility to a
genre that 'til their arrival was regarded
was little more than a joke. Their third and
most accomplished album the faster, bolder,
heavier 'Inhuman Rampage', which is set to
be released on 9th January, will be
accompanied by a UK headlining tour, for
which tickets are already selling fast.
The album CD also includes an enhanced
section that features exclusive 'behind the
scenes' footage shot in Japan and at 2005's
European festivals, plus a Windows theme
package that includes screensavers, mouse
icons, wallpaper, etc.

The final track listing for 'Inhuman
Rampage' is as follows:
Through
The Fire And Flames, Revolution Deathsquad,
Storming The Burning Fields, Operation
Ground And Pound, Body Breakdown,
Cry For Eternity, The Flame Of Youth and
Trail Of Broken Hearts.
Dragonforce's UK headline tour runs as
follows:
27th Jan – Manchester Academy 2
29th Jan – Nottingham Rock City
30th Jan – Leeds Metropolitan University
31st Jan – Glasgow Carling Academy
1st Feb – Newcastle University
3rd Feb – London Astoria

Newman: Latest Album News |
 |
Newman have completed recordings for the
follow up to 2003’s “Sign Of The Modern
Times”. The new album, titled “Heaven Knows”
will be released through Escape Music in
2006. Songs set for inclusion are “Heaven
Knows”, “Higher”, “Aint Gonna Cry Forever”
and “Sport Of Kings” co-written with Anders
Rydholm, (Grand Illusion).
Steve Newman has also written an acoustic
song in remembrance of the terrible events
in Asia last year. Entitled “On Any Other
Sunday” which is available for download via
the Escape Music website at
www.escape-music.com to raise
awareness of the 200,000+ people who lost
their lives in the Tsunami tragedy almost 12
months ago this coming December.
Steve Newman comments about the track: “I
had the fortune of visiting Sri Lanka only a
few months before the devastating events
that took place, During my stay I was very
moved by the people’s warmth and the way of
life on the island. When I saw the pictures
on TV last December I was horrified and felt
powerless as I’m sure most of us did at that
time. The song “On Any Other Sunday”
although originally written as a love song ,
seems to be very apt in it’s lyrical
content. Unfortunately, although out of the
news, the plight for many of these people
will go on for years to come. Thanks for
taking the time to listen and remember.” .

MTM
Sign Liberty N' Justice |
 |
MTM Music
is pleased to announce the signing of all
star band Liberty N' Justice!
Liberty N' Justice was founded in 1991 by
Justin Murr and Patrick Marchand. Just out
of high school, they recorded their first
album, "Armed With The Cross," in 1992 on
independent label Glory Rock Records. With
the music of one and the voice of the other,
they embarked on a six month tour to support
it. Liberty n' Justice played everywhere:
churches, youth events, children's homes,
concerts, and elderly homes. "Armed with the
Cross" went on to sell very well.
Along the way, Liberty N' Justice added new
band members Robert Sliger, Angie Beckett,
James Beckett, Sarah Day, Bob Bacon, and Kim
Todd. The band members thought they were
building momentum and decided to go back
into the studio in 1994 to record "Big
Guns". The album "Welcome to the Revolution"
featured 18 known singers, including Lou
Gramm of FOREIGNER, Michael Sweet of Stryper
and was released in 2004.

(Left to
right: Justin Murr, Tony Harnell (TNT), and
producer Mike Layne)
"I have a dream and I know God put this
dream in my heart," Justin Murr said. "For
this new record, I expanded on the original
idea. I thought how cool and what kind of
ministry would it be to have 'known' rock
singers singing Christian songs."
Murr wanted to go in a new direction with
this CD as well. So he hired a producer
named Mike Layne best known for his work
with Leaderdogs and Mudvayne.
Justin: "I am happy to find a home at MTM
and look forward to great success with Mario
and Sebastian. As you already know MTM is
one of the premier Melodic/Hard Rock labels
in Europe and to be on a label that boasts a
talent pool like TNT, Stryper, Tony Martin
and many others is a dream come true. This
CD is a great hard rock record and I am
looking forward to the fans of these singers
hearing them on new songs! I just want to
thank MTM for making this possible."
So here for your listening is a soundtrack …
a "Soundtrack Of A Soul" which is scheduled
for February 2006.

Shy
- Reflections Press Release |
 |
Castle Music/Sanctuary
Records are proud to announce the release of
the first ever 2-Disc career-spanning
anthology by UK premier melodic rockers, Shy
containing previously unreleased
demo’s, fan favourites and material from the
band’s most recent releases.
Shy
will be undertaking dates to promote the
release this Winter.
About The Band:
Formed in Birmingham in 1982
by singer Tony Mills who together with
guitarist Steve Harris (no, not the Iron
Maiden bassist), keyboardist Pat
McKenna, bass player Mark Badrick and
drummer Alan Kelly, created a sound that
belied their Midlands roots. The band’s
Stateside AOR leanings perfectly suited
Mills’ high register vocalising which could
be heard to great effect on the band’s debut
album, Once Bitten, Twice Shy
released on Ebony Records in 1983. Roy Davis
replaced Badrick on keyboards and the band
signed to RCA Records for their second
album, Brave The Storm (1985)
which refined Shy’s solid approach to
their songwriting. However, it was the RCA
follow-up, Excess All Areas
which is regarded as the band’s most
consistent work and gained much critical
acclaim within the Rock press upon its
release in 1987. Shy released a
further album in the 80’s entitled
Misspent Youth, this time through
MCA Records but due to changes in musical
focus, Tony Mills left in 1990 to pursue
session work and enjoyed artistic freedom
through several solo releases. Just over a
decade later, Mills re-joined for the
Unfinished Business album released
in 2001, thus opening a new chapter in
Shy’s career.

About The Album:
Break Down The Walls
is the first fully comprehensive collection
from the Shy canon and covers the
band’s entire career from their ‘83 debut
album, Once Bitten, Twice Shy
right up to the present day. Disc 1 gathers
together a selection of tracks from the
band’s first three albums and also includes
the bonus track, ‘All On You’ which was
recorded at the time of the band’s debut but
only later surfaced on the CD re-issue in
‘98. Disc 2 continues with tracks from the
Brave The Storm album from ‘85
before venturing into a selection of demo’s
and two tracks from the Welcome To The
Madhouse album from 1994. Following
an acoustic treatment to the track, ‘Young
Heart’, we round-off the anthology nicely
with tracks from Shy’s more recent
studio albums and include two from 2001’s
Unfinished Business and two from
Sunset And Vine which was
released earlier this year.
Tracklist
Disc One

, Think Of Me, Chained By Desire, All On
You, Once Bitten, Twice Shy, Hold On (To

Sepultura Live in Sao Paulo |
 |
November 11th sees the release of
a new Seplutura live DVD & CD, entitled 'Live In Sao
Paulo.
For over twenty
years, the band from Brazil has been delivering a
brutal mix of metal, hardcore, thrash, punk and
tribal that could hardly be more intense or more
passionate. What had begun in Belo Horizonte in 1984
soon turned into a metal hurricane of threatening
proportions and has taken on undreamt-of dimensions
since the enlistment of American vocalist Derek
Green in 1998. You have to experience this band live
on stage to understand the fascination that this
South-American act holds. And Sepultura’s current
songs always indicate the future of heavy metal.
Live In Sao Paulo documents the group’s significance
for the international metal scene, and the show that
was recorded in their hometown on April 3, 2005,
will be available on double DVD (including bonus
material) and double CD. Both formats testify to the
group’s determination. From the first note of the
opener ‘Apes Of God’ to the final sound on ‘Roots
Bloody Roots’, there is an incredibly haunting
atmosphere, constantly powered by insolent
instrumental attacks and the vocalist’s charismatic
voice. The double CD covers the whole Sao Paulo show
and consists of twenty killer songs (plus intro),
including a number of important classics along the
lines of ‘Innerself / Beneath The Remains’ or ‘Arise
/ Dead Embryonic Cells’ and more recent tracks, such
the above-mentioned ‘Apes Of God’ or ‘Come Back
Alive,’ both from the 2003 studio recording Roorback.
The double DVD presents the whole show visually and
offers lots of additional bonus material. Next to a
making-of, there is a comprehensive Sepultura
featurette with a special focus on vocalist Derek
Green. Intriguing images recount his whole story as
the band’s vocalist, from the initial contact in the
mid-Nineties through various projects over the
course of the years to his amazing performance in
spring 2005. Then there are three Sepultura video
clips (‘Mind War,’ ‘Bullet The Blue Sky,’ ‘Choke’)
and three more live tracks. The double DVD is
rounded off by a slide show and an 18-minute band
history.

The full track
listing for Live In Sao Paulo is as follows:
Intro, Apes of God, Slave New World, Propaganda,
Attitude, Choke, Innerself/Beneath The Remains,
Escape To The Void, Mindwar, Troops Of Doom,
Necromancer, Sepulnation, Refuse/Resist, Territory,
Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos, Bullet The Bue
Sky, Reza, Biotech is Godzila, Arise/Dead Embrionic
Cells, Come Back Alive and Roots Bloody Roots.

Shadows Fall DVD Release |
 |
The
highly-anticipated new Shadows Fall DVD, The Art of
Touring, is set for a November 15th release, which
effectively documents the rise of one of today's
most influential and dominant metal bands. Brian
Fair (vocals) describes what the DVD release means
to him and how the band strived to create something
special for their fans that would stand out from the
pack: "This DVD will give viewers a quick look into
the madness that is Shadows Fall on the road. It is
not always pretty or perfect, but hell, neither are
we. Everything you see on this DVD was filmed by
either a band member, crew member or close friend.
It is raw, unscripted and pure chaos.
"This DVD was filmed when our lives were changing
dramatically as The Art Of Balance was beginning to
pick up steam and we were zigzagging across the
world on a break neck schedule of tours. We were a
band trying to leave our mark on the world and get
our hands on as many free drinks as possible. The
only footage that is not from that era is the
tribute we put together for our departed brother in
arms "Dime Bag" Darrell Abbott. The six weeks we
spent on tour with our boys in Damageplan were some
of the best times of my life. We were lucky enough
to share some of his last days on this earth and we
wanted to share some of those memories with the fans
that loved and respected him. This footage is proof
that the man lived everyday with a smile on his face
and a drink in his hand.
"We wanted to capture the mind set the band was in
during this period, which was full steam ahead,
kicking ass and taking names. There are no
overproduced multi camera shots like you see in most
DVD's these days. We didn't want to add one more
glossy DVD release to an already over-saturated
market. This was our attempt to re-create the vibe
found on home videos like Cliff Em' All by Metallica
and Oh Say Can You Scream by Skid Row. Those were
videos that showed a band in its purest form. That
is what The Art Of Touring is all about. This is
bootleg-style guerilla film making fueled by alcohol
and lack of sleep. As dizzying as some of the
editing may be, trust me, this is almost exactly how
we saw the world over these two years."
The Art of Touring features over two hours of
on-the-road antics and live performances filmed from
2002 through 2004 on The Art of Balance album
touring cycle while on the road in the U.S., Europe
and Japan. Also featured here are all six of the
band's promotional videos to date from "Thoughts
Without Words" to "Inspiration On Demand." Several
guest appearances, rare cover songs and a special
tribute to Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott that features a
live jam of the classic Pantera track "Walk"
(performed by Damageplan and Shadows Fall in the
fall of 2004) round out the DVD.
Shadows Fall wowed thousands of people every night
on the main stage at this year's Ozzfest with their
highly energetic and captivating live performances.
Their stunning blend of hard rock and thrash metal
was welcomed by the masses with open arms. The
group's latest album, The War Within, originally
debuted at #20 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and it
is quickly approaching 250,000 units scanned led by
the strength of the Active Rock hits "What Drives
The Weak" and "Inspiration On Demand." The album
garnered accolades in such mainstream publications
as Billboard, Blender and Giant, among others while
Shadows Fall were also hailed as a "Band To Watch In
2005" by Rolling Stone, Spin and Stuff magazine.

Ambition |
 |
Frontiers Records is pleased to present all details
surrounding the release of the long awaited Ambition
project.
The basis of Ambition were put together during
2002, when Frontiers Records President - Serafino
Perugino - approached singer Joe Vana, of Mecca fame, in
order to bring back on the spotlight one of the “long
lost” AOR golden throats - Thom Griffin. He reappeared
again – after a silence lasted some 20 years! - on the
music scene singing backgrounds on the MECCA album,
where Vana ironically, shared lead vocals with Fergie
Fredriksen (ex Toto, Leroux): the first singer in
Griffin’s original band Trillion.
Griffin gained in fact his cult-status singing with
Trillion on “Clear Approach”, a magnificent example of
Pomp Rock which still today stands the test of time and
that got reissued in the year 2000 on Sony Music in
Japan.
Vana and Griffin soon went into the studio and cut the
song “Waiting In My Dreams” (a remake of a hidden
treasure from the MR. MISTER repertoire), who took
melodic rock fans by storm on the Rock The Bones vol. 1
compilation, released on Frontiers in 2003 (now included
as a bonus track on the finished release). Shortly after
however Joe Vana was forced to resign from his
obligations, because of circumstances outside his
control. Griffin then remained without a producer and a
song writing partner and the project was about to be put
on hold indefinitely.
But it was only thanks to Perugino’s persistence that
AmbitionN could see the light of the day in the end! He
hired producer Fabrizio Grossi (Glenn Hughes,
Starbreaker, Vertigo etc.) to care about the recording
sessions and asked around to supply the proper material
that could suit best Griffin’s soaring vocal abilities.
Joey Carbone, longtime Joseph Williams’ (ex Toto singer)
song writing partner, answered the call and supplied “No
Wasted Moments” and “Together”. But thanks to this idea
he was also able to discover a couple of new talents in
the persons of Christian Wolff, a very gifted songwriter
from Sweden (who in the meanwhile has become the new
songwriting partner of ON THE Rise’s Terje Eide – who
also has a song on this album “Shaping Fate and
Destiny”) and Brian LaBlanc (who later on got a
recording contract with his own band Blanc Faces).
The recording of the project could finally restart at
the end of 2004 and since the music had an obvious
resemblance to Toto’s sound on “Isolation” and “The
Seventh One”, the producers thought to enlist the
services of Swedish guitar ace Tommy Denander, who could
give the perfect AOR touch for this release!

Still keen on the idea of having two singers sharing
lead vocals duties – and since Vana could not yet
resolve his own problems - at the very last minute,
Perugino and Grossi thought it was cool to have a guest
spot from short-lived TOTO singer Jean-Michel Byron. He
duets with Griffin on “Too Much” and “Hypocrites” and
sings leads on “Hunger” giving a special taste to the
release.
The final tracklisting for Ambition is as follows:
Hold On; Hypocrites; Alone I Cry; Shaping Fate And
Destiny; All I Need; Make It Alright; No Wasted Moments;
Together; Too Much; Hunger; The Promise and Waiting In
My Dreams.
The Release date for the album is scheduled fro January
27th.

Sunday 4th December 2005. If any of you can make it
to the show, we'd all love to see you there one last
time.
This decision was
not easy for us to make, but with decline of the
melodic rock scene over the last few years, it has
become increasingly difficult to find record
companies willing to front the necessary money to
finance quality albums. Because of this, we as a
band refuse to put out albums that are not of a
standard fit to reflect the prices being charged for
them.
In the current
state of the melodic rock scene, the only way for
bands to progress is to rely on constant live work,
to encourage the sales of CDs and merchandise.
Unfortunately, this relies on support slots with
well known rock acts who charge bands like us money
for the "privilege" of playing on the same bill. And
trust us when we say they're not asking for
peanuts. This is coupled with the problem that the
majority of European promoters refuse to put bands
out on tour that will not make them enough profit,
resulting in new or more recent bands not getting
the publicity they deserve. Hence the rise of '90s
rock bands on "comeback tours" - easy money! This
is, however, why it is called the Music Business
(and not the Artist Appreciation Society) - hee hee.
So with that, the
band would like to thank the following...
Keiran at Fireworks; Rob at Powerplay; Andrew at
Melodicrock.com; Firehouse (for not charging us &
being our good friends); Brendan (for your support);
webmistress Janette; Rob at Framus; EMI; Burnn; our
friends, family & loved ones; all our crew; and most
importantly, our fans and all the people who helped
us to enjoy the last five years as Pride. From the
bottom of our hearts, we thank you all.
Chris, Matt,
Simon, Tony and Rik.

Short Updates |

Sacred Heart will be making an appearance on
Steve Price's Sunday show on 6th November 2005 @ 6pm GMT
and will be performing a few acoustic tracks live,
having a chat and of course discussing the Melodic Rock
Xmas Bash @ Ruskin Arms on Dec 4th. You can tune in to
their appearance via
www.arfm.co.uk & Sky channel 913. With regards
to the Melodic Rock Xmas Bash, as many of you are
probably aware by now - sadly - Double Cross, who have
parted with their singer, have had to pull out of the
bash. Their place has been filled by another of the UK's
finest. Who? Well that will be announced shortly!!!
However, the DC guys will be in attendance and you won't
be disappointed with their replacement.....
Viking Skull, who were to have been on the bill
of the upcoming Alice Cooper/Twisted Sister shows will
now not be appearing. In a statement on their website
the band alleged that this was due to the fact that
Twisted Sister wanted to play a full ninety minute set.
However in a rebuttal of this allegation it's now been
pointed out that Twisted Sister were always intended to
play a ninety minute set on the trek and that is
not the reason why Viking Skull are no longer playing on
the bill.
