Beardfish

Inside Out Music will release the new album from Beardfish on May 19th.

Entitled Sleeping In Traffic: Part Two is the latest album from the Swedish prog rock phenomenon, Beardfish. The music here is timeless and enthralling with a depth and substance that never overtaxes the listener with overly intricate structures. Last but not least, a distinct sense of humour, which pervades Beardfish’s music in general, is particularly evident on the eight songs featured here.

“Our music is probably a mixture of many styles, but we never play anything if it isn’t fun to play,” says the band’s vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Rikard Sjöblom. “We’re basically a rock band with tendencies towards the theatrical, especially in the lyrics but also with small musical hints here and there. The main influence is a love of music, all music. We’re just as influenced by Radiohead or Elton John as we are by Gentle Giant or Camel”.

Sleeping In Traffic: Part Two sees Beardfish continue the story which they began in 2007 on SIT: Part One. The storyline: 24 hours in a person’s life, from one sunrise to the next. “Sleeping In Traffic: Part One is the day and Sleeping In Traffic: Part Two the night, ending with the suite ‘Sleeping In Traffic’, “which is a dream, basically,” Sjöblom explains: “It’s not a concept album in the sense that all the songs are intertwined and so on, but on the other hand there is a thread throughout the two albums. There are no moral codes or lessons or messages in these songs, other than the ones the listener hears for him or herself. The lyrics are rather personal, either they’re more or less self-biographical, or they’re downright fictional.”

In support of the new album Beardfish will undertake a European tour alongside The Tangent and Ritual in May.

Strong keyboards were supplied by David J Petovar as well as frontman Don Wolf who gave the vocal performance of his life.

White Wolf are legends, make no mistake, and this is a worthy addition to their collection. With the 2007 release of the third White Wolf album "Victim of the Spotlight" and the reissue of the two earlier albums then the future is bright for this Canadian six piece. The Wolf shall prowl once more…….this is a fantastic live performance and essential for anyone wishing to experience the sheer power of this magnificent hard rock band.

Neal Smith - New CD Available

From the sick and twisted mind of original Alice Cooper drummer Neal Smith, one of the Legendary Gods of Shock Rock, comes KillSmith with a new CD entitled 'Sexual Savior'. Born 2008 on a bloody St. Valentine's Day massacre, 'Sexual Savior' unloads a hardcore metal celebration of the human condition, violence, death, sex, lust and greed. The CD comes with a sixteen-page booklet featuring song lyrics and lots of hot female skin. Turn the volume all the way up and blast your brains out listening to eleven new songs destined to be Classick's including: "Naked And The Raw", "Sexual Savior", "Monsters In The Attic" (with drum solo), "How Do You Bleed", "Dynasty Of Darkness" and "Human Evolution".

Neal Smith is best known worldwide for his innovative drumming and outrageous stage antics with the original Alice Cooper Group. His solid drumming is the hallmark sound behind such 1970's Alice Cooper hits "Schools Out", "I'm Eighteen", "Billion Dollar Babies" and "No More Mr. Nice Guy". Neal is also a prolific songwriter, who helped pen many of Cooper's best known songs. From the late 1970's to the present, Smith's trademark drums can be heard on several albums, including the critically acclaimed Bouchard, Dunaway and Smith CDs.

And now with 'Sexual Savior', "this aggressive masterpiece is aimed at today's hard rock market, but will no doubt appeal to anyone with anti-social tendencies," Derek Emery of LA's The Place. "A true veteran of the drum kit, Neal Smith expands his remarkable talent on this new CD, playing drums, synthesizer, and guitar as well as all lead vocals. Each heart pounding song was written and produced by Smith as well. The brilliant drumming alone will leave you paralyzed!"

KillSmith's 'Sexual Savior' is now available from CD Baby, iTunes, E-Bay and Amazon.com, as well as the official KillSmith website. Buy it - you'll love it to death!!!

Quick Updates

Fresh from a star turn at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas, exclusive live footage can be seen of trailblazing new-Blues man Son Of Dave on his brand new web blog: http://sonofdave.blogspot.com, alongside a running diary from the event. Highlight for Son Of Dave had to be Alabama 3 joining him onstage to molest the blues with him. The diary also features some advice to the young from a man who knows what he’s talking about, and the video for his current single ‘Old Times Were Good Times’. For those who follow his Gonzo-style column in Stool Pigeon, it’s a much-needed fresh fix.

Back to the current job at hand, bringing his music to the masses on the road. Described as a “force of nature” live, Son Of Dave previews music from his brand new album ‘03’, out on Kartel on April 7th, with more UK shows in April and May, including a show at Proud in Camden, joining Vincent Vincent & The Villains on Wednesday 9th April, followed by eight more UK dates. Son Of Dave has also confirmed a performance at the Big Chill Festival 2008 in Eastnor.

The full list of dates is as follows:

9th April - London Proud
25th April - Southampton Joiners
26th April - Portsmouth Cellars
27th - April Kettering Sawyers
29th - April Norwich Arts Centre
30th April - Cambridge Barfly
1st May - Nottingham Rescue Rooms
2nd May - Sheffield The Plug
4th May - Belfast Catherdral Quarter Arts Festival

For a live twist, not many artists can claim to feature as installations in an Art Exhibition, but Son Of Dave does just that with his performance at the forthcoming Le Gun exhibition on 10th April at Transit in Shoreditch. The artwork for Son Of Dave's new album '03' was designed by Chris Bianchi from the Le Gun collective, and depicts Son Of Dave live onstage. With the original artwork featuring in the exhibition, Son Of Dave performs live as a real-life enactment of the art piece.

Son Of Dave has also confirmed a brand new single release. 'Lover Not A Fighter' will be released on 16th June 2008 through Kartel, and is one of the stand out tracks from '03'.

St Albans hardcore outfit Your Demise will release their mini album, “Blood Stays on The Blade” through Leeds based indie label Thirty Days of Night (Gallows, Architects, Eternal Lord, Bring Me The Horizon) on May 12th 2008. Having gone through approx. 11 member changes since their conception in 2004, the quintet are back with firm line up, and six tracks of crushing metallic hardcore. Using elements of early 80’s punk, thrash metal and modern hardcore, “Blood Stays On The Blade” is a musical tour de force, and one that is certain to throw the band up with the leaders of UK hardcore.

Coming from the same area as UK heroes Gallows, Enter Shikari and Friendly Fires the band are quick to show their appreciation for the bands. “We actually put on their first ever show and Lee (Barratt, drummer for Gallows) has drummed with us before on a few occasions” says front man George Noble. The band have spent the last few years playing all over the UK & Europe (+2 nights spent in an Antwerp jail, on charges of intent to use and possession of BB guns!) with literally hundreds of bands including Earth Crisis, Sick of it All, Shai Hulud, Bring Me The Horizon, The Chariot, Sworn Enemy, Madball and I Killed The Prom Queen and have recently completed a mammoth tour with Enter Shikari and Hundred Reasons.

On this weeks Hair Metal Haven, Chris Nelson has a WORLD EXCLUSIVE 1st play of songs from the forthcoming solo album Vital Designs from TNT frontman and vocalist Tony Mills. Tony will be talking to Chris through each track and telling us his his plans for 2008. There will also be songs taken from Tony's back catalogue, including tracks from Shy, Siam and of course TNT. So join Chris this Saturday 5th April 17.00-19.00 GMT only on www.rock247online.co.uk

Torche are to release a new album, entitled Meanderthal, via Hydra Head Records on May 12th.

The press release for the release states that, "One night some months ago we had a dream. Not like a Martin Luther King-type dream, with little kids of all races and nationalities holding hands and shit like that. No, we had a more realistic dream—okay, okay, it was the middle of the day and we were high and maybe jerking off, so technically it was more of a fantasy—but the dream we had was that one of our favourite bands would be on our label and together we would release one of the most satisfying records in the history of forever. And the heavens would part, the Billboard charts would collapse under the sheer sonic awesomeness, and the world would become a better place—a place where everyone had free health care and a money tree in their backyard and a hot trophy wife or strapping young houseboy or whatever. And that band, ladies and gentlemen, was Torche. And wouldn’t you know it, that shit totally came true (we’re waiting on the health care, the money tree, the houseboy and the Billboard thing, but still). And that record—in case you’re having trouble keeping up here—is Meanderthal. Call it the band’s second official full-length (after their 2005 self-titled debut via our good friends at Robotic Empire) and follow-up to last year’s six-song mini-epic In Return, released exclusively on hallucinogenic vinyl. Call it the latest and greatest bomb-string stoner pop/thunder rock/doom pop classic from Torche mastermind Steve Brooks and his fellow hook heroes. Call it the sweetest, catchiest, hugest riff colossus since Sky Valley. Shit, call it Album Of The Year if you want. That’s what we’re going with, anyway.

The full track listing of Meanderthal is as follows:

Triumph of Venus, Grenades, Piraña, Sandstorm, Speed of the Nail, Healer, Across the Shields, Sundown, Little Champion, Without A Sound, Fat Waves, Amnesian and Meanderthal

Pendulum release the single ‘Propane Nightmares’ on April 28th as an exciting taster ahead of their second album ‘In Silico’ that follows on May 12th. The groundbreaking eclectic crossover dance band will also be taking their full live band experience on the road with a UK tour throughout May. Pushing drum and bass into a fresh, visceral territory, ‘Propane Nightmares’ will be available and CD and 12" formats. The 12" is backed with Pendulum’s VIP remix of the track.

‘In Silico’ follows Pendulum’s 150,000 selling debut ‘Hold Your Colour’ and will be their first under a new deal with Ear Storm / Warner Bros. Records. Pendulum have been writing new material ever since the release of ‘Hold Your Colour’ and have recorded the bulk of the material at their own studio (the acoustic drums were the only exception, recorded at London’s Olympic Studios and premixed by Dave Bascombe, known for his work with Depeche Mode and The Verve). Influenced by an eclectic array of sounds including Led Zeppelin, Noisia, Underoath, TC and Atreyu, ‘In Silico’ represents a bold step-forward for Pendulum.

Lion Music Update

Lion Music have released details of their releases scheduled for April:

Jennifer Battern - Whatever

Critically acclaimed as one of the most creative, imaginative and talented guitarists on the planet and always at the forefront of technology Jennifer Batten returns for her third solo album in the captivating sonic tapestry of “Whatever”. Released as a dual pack of CD & DVD the album is described in style by Jennifer herself as “guitronica”. The album possesses plenty of guitar, but “Whatever” is heavily multi textured with a plethora of sounds and vocal samples, and has a humorous thread throughout. The music is also influenced by various ethnic cultures such as the African vibe in "Off the Deep End".

On the albums creation Jennifer comments, “Originally I started writing a lot of these tracks for Jeff Beck when I was in his band. My third CD has been long over due so in the end I'm happy to have these tracks for myself! He got me interested in electronica and I'm very happy to have that as a new direction with all the amazing inspiring sounds available today.”

The included DVD breaks down each video track with a commentary by Jennifer, who  describes the album as "'sort of' instrumental. There are vocal samples telling stories in most songs, but not the standard song type lyrics and melodies. I played and programmed most of the CD with the exception of having a few guests."

The full track listing for Whatever, which is released on April 18th, is as follows:

Ass Whoopin', Ricochet, Off The Deep End, Whatever, Fearless, Hooligan's Holiday, In The Aftermath, Run With It, Cupid's Arrow and Inner Journey.

Mind's Eye - 1994: The Afterglow

“1994: The Afterglow” is a slice of history from one of the most critically acclaimed progressive bands of recent years – Mind's Eye. The Swedish progressive rock / metal masters in conjunction with Lion Music offer up their little heard 1994 debut album “The Afterglow”.

Re-mastered by Daniel Flores and re-packaged with all new artwork by artist Carl-André Beckston (Monowasp), the album is wrapped up with a variety of bonus features (including the bands debut video – Castle Of Eternity), all showing the humble beginnings of the band who released arguably 2007’s most critically acclaimed progressive metal masterpiece and world first triple pack release (CD/DVD/Comic) in “A Gentleman’s Hurricane”.

Being the first ever release by Mind's Eye, this is a genuine chance to get to know the band as they started their career. Back then the bands core of Daniel Flores and Johan Niemann along with original singer German Pascual and guitarist Fredrik Grunberger proved they already knew that they wanted to show the world that good music CAN be created with discipline and emotion. Sounds like a paradox? Not for Mind's Eye.

The musicianship and song writing on “1994: The Afterglow” belies the bands tender years at the time, Daniel and Fredrik where 18, German was 20 and Johan was only 15. Musically the band had the same goal as they do today. What they didn’t have back then was the experience and knowledge they have today, yet this album shows the unique seeds for future works and any listener will be hard pressed not to appreciate the talent on offer even today some 14 years on from original release.

"1994 : The Afterglow" is the start of the musical adventure of Mind's Eye.

The full track listing for The Afterglow, which is released on April 18th, is as follows:

Blind Justice, Castle of Eternity, Red Storm Rising, Beyond Endurance, With These Eyes, Andromeda, Ending a Story and A Thousand Nights After The Last Sundown.

Daniele Liverani - Cosmics

Daniele Liverani’s new project Cosmics mark their debut with the instrumental / experimental concept album "The Cosmic Year". The album, a collection of 10 tracks within a melodic and progressive metal setting are based around the keyboard wizardry of Daniele Liverani (Twinspirits, Genius, Khymera), along with “special guest” drummer Virgil Donati (Steve Vai, Planet X, Ring Of Fire), young guitar hotshot Tommy Ermolli (Twinspirits, Khymera) and respected bassist Rufus Philpot (Planet X) show that progressive music can be both accessible and intelligently written.

Each track contains various movements given a sonic reference to specific moments in the evolution of the universe which maintain both a progressive outlook yet work cohesively as a sonic unit and as single entities. Daniele Liverani showcases immense skill in this his most complex, visionary and progressive work to date. Guitarist Tommy Ermolli’s performance will only go to further the reputation this 20 year old has earnt so far. This musical vision is extended further with the stunning rhythm section interaction between Rufus Philpot and Virgil Donati that the listener will have come to expect from their work together in Planet X.

The full track listing for The Cosmic year, which is released on April 18th is as follows:

Big Bang, Life Birth, Giants Domination, Chicxulub, Global Extinction, Omination, History Begins, Emperors And Gods, Voyages Of Discovery & The Last Second

In other Lion Music News Sphere Of Souls are back with a revamped line up with the addition of lead guitarist Alex Rosenhof of Picture of the Moon and drummer Milan Ridderhof, formerly of Daisy Vain. Alex and Milan who replace former members Anand Mahangoe and Ruud van Diepen respectively, who left the band in early 2007.

The new Sphere of Souls line-up is currently rehearsing material from the band's 2006 debut `From the Ashes…', released by Lion Music. Material for a second album is also in the works and the band will resume live work within the next few months.

“A lot of the harmonies are classically based, so that whole side of my background is represented,” says vocalist/guitarist Alex Davies who, like the rest of the band, comes from classically trained background. “Then there’s the whole band performances backed by an orchestra that really emphasizes those instruments and the chord progressions.”

Elliot Minor are currently embarking upon an extensive UK tour that will conclude with their largest headline show to date at London’s Astoria on April 12th. The guys will also be supporting Simple Plan on their European Tour in March/April.

The Subways - Press Release

The Subways are poised for a sensational return this year when they release their second album ‘All Or Nothing’ on June 16th. The album, produced by Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth), will be preceded by the singles ‘Girls And Boys’ (March 25th - download only) and ‘Alright’ (June 2nd) as well as 2 nationwide tours of intimate club venues.

In early 2007, Billy, the Welwyn Garden City trio's, lead singer was forced to brave surgery on his vocal chords. An event which placed the band's very existence into doubt. Lunn, thankfully given the all-clear after a long lay-off, spent the rest of the year with The Subways reenergized, refocussed and ready to produce their finest work to date in the form of the planned summer release of much-anticipated follow-up album "ALL OR NOTHING" .

Recorded in Los Angeles, the twelve-track album marks a tremendous progression for the band since the ‘Young For Eternity’ debut. Freshly inspired by bands including Death Cab For Cutie and Refused, the result is an album that recalls the exuberance of ‘Young For Eternity’ while embarking upon an adventurous sonic progression. The vehement opening riff of single ‘Girls And Boys’ is a bold reintroduction to the band and is followed by the dynamic ‘Kalifornia’ that contrasts the band’s most vitriolic moment to date with an infectious, summery hook.

Track 'Girls And Boys’ will be available free to download at www.subways.net from March 25th. The download will then be available from selected websites on March 31st. Single, ‘Alright’, will receive a full release on June 2nd.

Other highlights of ‘All Or Nothing’ include the breezy, retro-pop of the title-track, the raw power of live favourites ‘Shake Shake’ and 'I Won't Let You Down' as well as the sun-kissed vocal harmonies of ‘Alright’ and the instantly infectious melodies on 'Strawberry Blonde'. ‘Young For Eternity’ was released in 2005 and soon established The Subways in the live arena, proving to be enduring festival favourites at Reading, Leeds and Glastonbury and selling out almost every headline show that they played. Dave Grohl, Liam Gallagher and Paul Weller soon became prominent fans – Grohl and Gallagher personally asked The Subways to support the Foo Fighters and Oasis respectively.

And it wasn’t just here that The Subways were making waves. They became a regular fixture on American TV with performances on David Letterman and Conan O’Brien. An arena tour as guests to Taking Back Sunday also proved to be a particular highlight for the band playing 10,000 plus crowds across the states. Dates in Australia and Japan also offered evidence of their growing international reputation.

Kings X Confirm Full Details Of Album No. 15

According to international music critics and rock aficionados, King’s X may be counted amongst one of the most unusual acts in the history of rock music. The technical skills of the three band members, Ty Tabor (guitars, vocals), Doug Pinnick (bass, vocals) and Jerry Gaskill (drums, vocals), are above reproach. As on their fourteen previous recordings, their latest album, XV, is another prime example of classy groove rock featuring great melodies, driving rhythms and tough guitars.

Tabor, Pinnick and Gaskill have every reason to be satisfied with their latest offering. Some of the 14 brand new tracks owe their sound to a classy guitar riff, others to a haunting groove or an intricate hook line, with the vocals always remaining at the epicentre of the music. “It is a very different record for us. It touches on a lot of different things from our past, but doesn’t sound the same. It seems to me that these are more complete songs. Some are short and sweet; some are more adventurous and unpredictable in some ways.”  (Ty Tabor)

XV saw the band working once again with the legendary sound engineer, Michael Wagener (Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper, Dokken, among others). King’s X were particular, not only when it came to their choice of producer, but also the recording process. Instead of putting together lots of pieces like a jigsaw puzzle, they allowed themselves the luxury of recording large sections of the production in a live atmosphere.

This fifteenth album from King’s X is one of the freshest and most dynamic cuts in their career to date.

The full track listing for XV, which is released via InsideOut/SPV on 19th May is as follows:

Pray, Blue, Repeating Myself, Rocket Ship, Julie, Alright, Broke, I Just Want To Live, Move, I Don't Know, Stuck, Go Tell Somebody, Love And Rockets (Hell's Screaming) and No Lie

Voodoo Six Confimr Tour Dates

Already selected as one of Classic Rock magazine’s tips for 2008, Voodoo Six are a band that draw heavily on the classic traditions that made British hard rock the envy of the world in the 70’s and early 80’s, whilst at the same time retaining an exciting and contemporary edge. There’s still no better sound in rock than two guitars trading crushing riffs, a singer who conjures the best spirits of rock and a rhythm section who provide the guts for songs which echo primeval hard rock.

Bassist Tony Newton and drummer Dave ‘Grav’ Cavill had toured with the likes of Iron Maiden, UFO and Dio and with these connections the blueprint for Voodoo Six was laid. Soon they had added two talented guitar players (Matt Pearce and Chris Jones) and finally topped it all off with the incredible vocals of new kid on the block Henry Rundell, whose set of pipes could give a young Robert Plant something to think about.

Touring in support of their new album “First Hit For Free”, which has been remixed by legendary Canadian Engineer Mike Fraser (Van Halen, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Metallica, Thunder, The Cult, Coverdale Page), the band hit the road throughout April & May alonsgide the likes of the Tygers Of Pan Tang & Blaze Bayley.
