Even better news is that House Of Lords founding member Gregg Giuffria promises to be on board for the new album and has been writing with James in the past weeks.

To wet appetites a little further - James Christian sent along the following update last week: "The writing for the new HOL is some of the finest we have done in years. This material is heavy yet very melodic and really captures the essence of the classic HOL sound. Gregg and I are both blown away by what we have some up with thus far. There is a good chance we will be done with the writing in a few months, then on to recording"

FIREFEST PRE SHOW PARTY - Friday November 25th - Venue: VIA FOSSA

Address : 44 Canal Street , Nottingham , NG1 7EH

Doors : 7pm First band : 7.30pm Venue Close :1.00 am

Via Fossa is one of the most popular bars in Nottingham offering a fantastic location in the heart of Nottingham , just a short five minute walk from Rock City. The location for FIREFEST 2 Pre Show Party, the show will take place in the spacious upstairs venue, totally segregated from the hustle and bustle of the busy bar below. The line up for the Pre Show party is as follows:

DOUBLE CROSS: Hailing from Leicester , Double Cross have been treading the boards for quite a while following the release of their debut album in 2002. A powerful four piece, the band have  opened for Dokken and Danger Danger and have just completed an arena tour of the UK opening for Styx. Double Cross play a powerful brand of traditional melodic hard rock with classy aor overtones and are surely destined for bigger things in 2006.

NEXX: are no strangers to the UK having played at two previous Gods festivals . Their brand of firey Latin melodic hard rock earned them rave reviews for their debut album Colours upon release. The five piece fronted by the diminutive Patricia are one of the hottest attractions in their homeland and have been personally championed by Harry Hess (Harem Scarem) and Danny Vaughn (Tyketto) , diminutive lead vocalist Patricia having guested with both previously, in fact so impressed was Harry Hess with Nexx’s cover of Sentimental Boulevard he asked Patricia to join Scarem on stage and sing lead. Nexx will be playing a mixture of material from Colours as well as some new material and a selection of cover versions from their extremely highly rated covers catalogue.

BLUE TEARS: Well, what can we say ? Most bands have to be persuaded to cross the Atlantic to play , but in this case Gregg Fulkerson and the boys are so pumped up about playing in England that they simply decided they were going to be on the Friday night bill as well.,and nothing was going to change their minds. So just to make it a little more interesting , Blue Tears will play a set of material from their healthy back catalogue that due to set length restriction they will not be able to play during their Saturday main day appearance. Gregg has promised to dig out tracks from the classic self titled debut album, Mad band and Dangerous as well as even including something from the Michael Sweet album he co wrote, produced and played on from 1994. With the band currently in rehearsals in Nashville working on the set list, any suggestion you may have for inclusion will not be ignored. E mail Gregg at blue0411@comcast.net with your set list suggestions for both shows. They are interested in putting on the best show possible , so e mail now and make sure you get your favourite Blue Tears track(s) on the list.

There will most likely be one more band added to the bill in the coming weeks , but we’re sure you will agree that it is a great way to start any weekend. Once again tickets are limited to 250 ONLY and are on a first come first served basis.

Tickets for Friday November 25TH ARE NOT available from Rock City or any of the other various outlets, they can ONLY  be purchased directly from the Fireworks office using payapal. You will remember Stryper as the frenetic “Yellow And Black Attack” that stormed the music scene two decades ago, transforming the pop-metal genre from the inside out. Today the legendary quartet is back and burning hotter than ever with intensified levels of zeal, resolve and innovation. With three original bandmates and newcomer Tracy Ferrie on bass, Stryper now releases its first all-new studio effort since 1990’s “Against The Law”. As the first Christian rock band to enjoy any decided success in the mainstream market, Stryper went on to sell more than 8 million records worldwide. The group’s RIAA-certified platinum 1986 release “To Hell with the Devil” was selected as one of the “100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music” by CCM Magazine. The project also generated the Billboard Top 40 hit “Honestly,” which peaked at #23. Two other albums struck RIAA gold: “Soldiers Under Command” (1985) and “In God We Trust” (1988), both spending numerous weeks on the Billboard 200 album chart.

Vaughn Announce Tour Details

Hot on the heels of the announcement of the Winter Rokfest, Vaughn have confirmed further details about their December tour. In a posting to the website (www.vaughn.de) lead vocalist Danny Vaughn made the following comments with regard to the dates.

"We are setting up a Vaughn tour for December. It will only be a couple of weeks and only a few select cities but I will be playing with the same bunch of British reprobates that were along for the ride last time. Steve McKenna, Greg Morgan, Pat Heath, and Tony Marshall have all been crazy enough to agree to give it another go working with me. I always want to make each tour a little different so this time, since I don't have anything brand new to promote, I thought that I would compile a longer set list than usual. While we will be playing several of the Tyketto and Vaughn classics that are a staple to my shows, I want to add in songs from other recordings that I've done that have never been done on stage before. Therefore, on this tour there will be a number of songs from Waysted's Save Your Prayers, Flesh & Blood, The Once & Future King, and, of course, From The Inside. This will be a real challenge to the entire band as well as myself but I think it would be a real treat to perform and, I hope, to listen to. I can't do all of them, but I will take suggestions for songs submitted to this web site under advisement! We have 5 confirmed dates so far. They are:

Dec 9th 2005 - Belfast Ireland. Sadly, The Empire was booked up but we will be at another venue that will be announced here in the next week or so.
Dec 10th - Winter Rokfest
Dec 11th - Dudley JB's
Dec 16th - Athens, Greece (venue TBA)
Dec 17th -Thessaloniki Greece "Earth"(the same venue that Tyketto played)

There will be more dates coming. We are waiting on some clubs in Scotland, Newcastle, Liverpool, and Spain to respond. If you can, please make any calls to the clubs to request tickets or get info or to push them to have us play there. The success of this and any future tours is going to rest with our fans, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Frontiers Records have announced all of the details for the release of Jaded Hearts’s seventh studio album “Helluva Time” which is scheduled for release on October 10th.

The album has been completed under the assistance of co-producer Chris Lausmann (ex-Bonfire) and is the first one featuring the splendid new singer Johan Fahlberg (ex-Scudiero) on the mike: a guy showing the abilities to become one of the most exciting new frontmen in the long lasting tradition of Scandinavian vocalists around. Drummer Axel Kruse says: “We are really pleased to have a guy like Johan in the band because he’s the perfect match both musically and personally”.

The production shows a much fresher approach and supports the improved songwriting and strong team-spirit that Jaded Heart developed during the whole recording sessions. “Chris Lausmann did a great job to push the Jaded Heart sound to the next level!”, Axel says.

The album is also including a riveting cover version of Anastacia’s smash-hit “Paid My Dues” (which was a long wished thing to do for the band) and shall have the following tracklisting:

Tomorrow Comes; Hole In My Heart; Somewhere; Dreams You'll Never See; Who's Foolin'; Paid My Dues; Without You; Love & Desire; No One; Shores Of Paradise; Frozen Heart and Love To Live.

Winter Rokfest 2005

The Classic Rock Society is proud to announce the return of it’s Winter Rokfest, on Saturday 10th December at the Montgomery Hall, Wath-on-Dearne, South Yorkshire, UK.

The festival started life as Progfest back in the the mid 1990’s and was abandoned in 2001. Now returning to the forefront as one of the CRS’s two major festivals (the first, Rotherham Rocks was reborn in 2004 and is now in early May every year). We hope this will be the first of many Rokfests

This year’s line up is:

VAUGHN is the band fronted by Danny Vaughn – ex Tyketto & Waysted frontman. Danny returns to the UK to perform his material for the first time in 2 years with a band assembled especially for the tour with many top rock musicians being cherry picked for the positions.

PULSE are an exciting melodic hard rock band from the UK, featuring the talents of vocalist Simon Abbots and guitarist Vince O'Regan. In 2002 the band released their self titled debut on Now And Then Records and followed the release with 2004's Worlds Apart on MTM Music.

DEADLINE are one of the hardest working bands on the scene and with many tours and gigs behind them with such greats as Tyketto, Danger Danger, Firehouse, Bob Catley and Mike Tramp. Deadline’s Kris Hudson-Lee, Andy Linsday, Kev Tonge and recently recruited vocalist Dale Radcliffe are showcasing their newer harder-edged material which is winning them many new fans as well as keeping their older fans happy!

GAIA are a Barnsley foursome. Gaia’s hard edged, visceral, acoustic sound recently won them many fans and virtually sold them out of CD’s at the Rotherham Rocks MMV festival in May. They make a very welcome return to the CRS.

THE STRANGEDAYS are opening the festival. The Manchester band are veterans of the last Phoenix Rising festival and by no means newcomers to the CRS stage.

Advance tickets will cost £14 for non members, £11 for members. For full details about the CRS, to download posters or to purchase tickets online, please visit the website www.classicrocksociety.com/winter-rokfest or phone the box office 01709 702575. Tickets on sale 9am GMT, 1st August. Limited to 275

Firefest 2

The second FIREFEST festival takes place at Nottingham Rock City on Saturday November 26th . The line up comprises of both old and new faces alike , some of which will be familiar to fans of melodic hard rock, others which may be new to many fans out there, but all in all it is a line up that proudly represents a healthy blend of old and new. The festival also moves ‘home’ with FIREFEST 2 moving to a more central location in Nottingham, one of the premier rock venues in England., Nottingham Rock City is a 1900 capacity venue that has played host to Whitesnake, Motorhead, Y&T, Skid Row and many more besides. In fact if you care to trawl through the annals of rock, it’s evident that more melodic and hard rock bands have played this venue more than any other venue in England. The move should make FIREFEST 2 more accessible to the vast amount of people traveling and bearing that fact in mind it’s also possible one of the best venues to attend a live show. Full ticketing details will be available early next week , but as always tickets can be purchased directly from the promoters via paypal using the fireworks.mag@ntlworld.com e mail address. So who is playing………………well here we go:

SARACEN: Led by guitarist Ron Bendelow, one of the great ‘almost made it bands ‘ of the NWOBHM bands reunited in 2002 to release the ‘Red Sky’ album in 2003. Gaining critical and commercial acclaim with Red Sky, Saracen proved to be the surprise package of Bloodstock 2003 laying waste to the stage and gaining a whole new generation of fans on the back of classic hard rocking tracks such as Heroes Saints and Fools and Follow the Piper. With a new album ‘Vox In Excelso’ currently being recorded , Saracen are out to impress those who have not yet had the opportunity to catch them live.

POWER QUEST: a melodic power metal band with it’s axis firmly in England , Power Quest are riding high as England’s answer to Rhapsody and proudly claim, and rightly so , to be the best the genre have to offer. With the debut album ‘Neverworld’ generating plaudits from every section of the music press, Power Quest have sought to take one step further with their forthcoming release ‘Magic Never Dies’ another pure melodic power metal gem in the making. Be sure to check out some home grown talent and ask yourself just why you have never heard of these guys, then, and only then you realize there is absolutely no justice in the world. Catch them now, before you have to stand half way back in a 50,000 person audience in a few months time.

BALANCE OF POWER: Arising from the ashes of three AOR bands Balance of Power first came to attention in 1997 with the release of ‘When the world falls Down’ , hailed by the music press of the day as a modern day AOR masterpiece. In the intervening years Balance of Power have toughened up their sound no end and moved more firmly into the progressive metal territory dominated by Dream Theater and have drawn slavering reviews from none other than former Kerrang maestro Geoff Barton to lavish praise such as “prog meets metal…and for once they’re British! Makes you proud to fly the flag”. Given that Balance of Power have a rich and powerful history , it’s with great pleasure that Tony Ritchie and co will dig into their illustrious back catalog to offer us songs from not only the debut album (still regarded as a classic AOR release by many) but something from almost every album they have recorded in their illustrious ten year career. This is Balance of Power’s only British date this year. Don’t miss it.

BLUE TEARS: The self titled Blue Tears album on MCA records from 1990 remains a classic to those who still yearn for the heady days of stadium hard rock. Led by Gregg Fulkerson , Blue Tears have gained nigh on legendary status on the back of stadium shaking anthems such as ’Rockin on the Radio’, ’Innocent Kiss’ and ’Thunder in the Night’. Following a period of inactivity , Gregg has once again (with a lot of persuasion) re assembled Blue Tears for a new album ‘Mad Bad and Dangerous’ , but prior to that Gregg has agreed to bring Blue Tears across the Atlantic for their first and only European show in their history. Gregg and the band are delighted to finally make the trip to England and this will be the ONLY opportunity to see the guys who promise to rock as hard , if not harder than anybody else on the bill. The fifteen year wait is about to end when Blue Tears finally take to an English stage on November 26th.

DANGER DANGER: Following a hugely successful UK tour in April of 2005 they have got the taste for it. No festival (or Saturday night ) would be complete without the ultimate party rock band from New York. Bruno , Steve , Ted and Rob are not only four of the coolest guys to walk the planet , but as anybody who saw them in April will attest to they are one of the finest live bands you could ever hope to see. With Ted Poley back in the band Danger Danger have not only reclaimed their crown , but raised the bar several notches making it a difficult job for any band that shares the stage with them. Promising a revamped setlist from April , D2 are once again looking forward to rocking in England . Armed with bona fide classics such as ‘Bang Bang’ , ‘Naughty Naughty’ , ‘I still think about You‘, ‘Monkey Business’ and ‘Shot of Love’ they are truly the masters of feel good rock and roll. This is once again the D2 boys only UK gig and they simply cannot be missed!

HAREM SCAREM: They’re coming, they’re not…so the debate has raged over the past few weeks. The fact is they weren’t, well until Harry and the guys were finally persuaded to play for their large army of UK fans. Harem Scarem have a been a staple of the melodic rock world over the last fifteen years and have never once failed to deliver top notch melodic hard rock. Weather it’s the slick self titled release , the totally classic ‘Mood Swings’ or the latter day masterpieces such as ‘Higher’ or ‘Weight of the World’ that whets your appetite , Harem Scarem have never failed to deliver. Harem Scarem would like to take this opportunity to thank their fans for making this happen , and we at FIREFEST would also like to thank Harry and the boys for showing their commitment to us by agreeing to make a long trip to play . This will surely be one of the most eagerly anticipated sets of the day , and with a bit of luck we’ll definitely get to hear ‘Saviours Never Cry’ this time…ok, you will………but try pick a set list for them…..it’s a difficult job with a wealth of tracks to choose from, either way they will be one of the top attractions of the day.

HOUSE OF LORDS: Finally…………for the first time since 1988 House of Lords will set foot on a British stage. Following a long period of inactivity House of Lords have agreed to a one off European performance of their classic material. Drawing on their three classic albums ’House of Lords’, ‘Sahara’ and ‘Demons Down’ , the band are fired up and rearing to go. This will be the first time since 1993 that the band have played live and they are currently working on a set list that will not only please, but blow away their long standing fans. House of Lords were one band that emerged from the whole ‘hair band’ era with not only their credibility, but an entire army of fans keen to hear cleverly crafted and masterfully delivered songs that simply demanded your attention. If tracks such as ‘Edge of your Life’, ‘Love don’t Lie’, ‘Can’t find my way Home’, ‘Remember my Name’ , ‘O Father’, ‘What’s forever For’ and ‘Metallic Blue’ conjure up memories of one of the finest melodic rock outfits to grace the stage the only place to be is Nottingham Roc City on Saturday November 26th to witness the ultimate live reunion. They may even have a surprise or two in store as well……………but telling wouldn’t make it a surprise would it????

Full ticketing details will be available next week, but for the moment if you have any questions or enquiries then please e mail firefest@hotmail.com, k_dargan@hotmail.com or fireworks.mag@ntlworld.com and we’ll do our best to answer. Tickets will be available from a number of venues throughout the UK, but we would ask that you purchase directly from the promoters wherever possible.

It’s also hoped to add a Friday night pre show similar to FIREFEST 1, more details on this early next week, but again, please remember it will be a limited amount of tickets available for this show.

Once again, on behalf of FIREFEST 2, thank you for your support. We look forward to seeing everybody in Nottingham in November.

For those of you who missed Firefest 1 back in May then a full review of the show is online and can be found via this link.

New York Dolls Sign To Roadrunner Records

Roadrunner Records have announced the signing of seminal punk rock artists the New York Dolls. Since rising to the heights of the lower east side glam/punk scene, the NY Dolls have become synonymous with low-fi, down and dirty, rock music. The band Rolling Stone Magazine credits with "the sound and snarl of jubilant outlaw spirit," will soon record an album of fresh, original material due out on Roadrunner in the Spring of 2006.

Featuring founding members David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain, alongside guitarist Steve Conte, bassist Sami Yaffa (bass), Brian Delaney on drums  and Brian Koonin on keyboards the band are currently touring North America with scheduled stops at Bumbershoot in Seattle, Sunset Junction Fest in LA and the Voodoo Fest in New Orleans.

Roadrunner Records Director of A&R David Bason states that, "I can't believe I just signed the most dangerous band in the history of Rock 'n' Roll! I've heard all about the legendary first few years, bought the records, read the books, saw the photographs. From what I can tell the first time was just a dress rehearsal. Watch yer back!"

In a time in music that is chock full of comebacks (the reunited Pixies & Mötley Crüe experiencing enormous success on their tours, among others), Smiths legend, Morrissey, experienced his highest US sales ever with the release of You Are The Quarry. Morrissey, less notably a past President of the New York Dolls fan-club years before he even joined The Smiths, made the request that reunited the New York Dolls in 2004 for the Meltdown Festival in the UK. Ever since, the 'Dolls have been touring steadily, playing festivals around the world including two dates in Ireland as special guests of fans the White Stripes. Says the LA Times, "on stage, the 'Dolls proved worthy of the legendary status that has been built over the years, and then some." In addition, the band has been headlining shows around the US including Little Steven's Underground Garage Festival on Randall's Island, NY, WHFestival in Baltimore, MD and shows at both SXSW and NXNE.

Comments Johansen, "We know that we're right where we're supposed to be."

Download Thunder

Thunder's first ever download only song is available now, exclusively from www.karmadownload.com 'I'm A Lucky Man' was recorded last year during the TMS sessions, and until now has not been released in any form whatsoever. Up-tempo, written by Luke, and keyed so high as to make it almost impossible to sing, it's just been
mixed by Rupert Coulson and Ben, and it's a real stonker! We're hoping that you'll all want this song and will knock yourselves (and others) out to get it, so this is the one that's been selected to be the first Thunder download only release.

If you all go mad and buy it in your thousands, and we can see it works well for both you and us, we'll roll this into our plans for the Fade Into The Sun single(after the summer hols). The idea will be to release at least one CD version of FITS (with fab extra tracks of course) plus a couple of download versions(which believe me will be very different from the LP), storm the charts again and take both FITS and Thunder back into the top 20. Hurrah!

To download now please visit http://www.karmadownload.com/album/?212753

Thunder play three UK festivals this summer, appearing at Guilfest on July 16th, Shepstwo Rock Til You Drop on July 23rd & the Rock And Blues Custom show in Derby on July 30th

Iron Maiden To Play Special Charity Show

In 2002 the members of Iron Maiden were shocked to learn that their former drummer, Clive Burr was suffering from MS. They played three nights in March at Brixton Academy in his honour, donating the £250,000 plus profits from the concerts and merchandising into a newly formed Clive Burr Multiple Sclerosis Trust Fund. The fund also received generous donations from the record company EMI and publisher BMG Music from the commercial single releases of Run To The Hills and Number of The Beast (which leapt into the UK charts at No 3 earlier this year). There were kind donations from all over the world of Heavy Metal, and tremendous support from the fans through numerous fund raising initiatives and very generous individual contributions.

Three years on, the money raised has helped enormously to provide treatment and support and to improve the quality of Clive’s life. For example: the Trust has helped Clive to secure his house, funded specialist treatments in this country and with experts in Europe and the USA, has provided specialised equipment, assisted with transport and travel and helped Clive with his living expenses.

The Trust was also able to help some other MS sufferers who have long standing connections with the band by assisting with the provision of vehicles specially adapted to carry wheelchairs.

The Clive Burr MS Fund needs replenishing if it is to continue to ease and improve the quality of Clive’s life, and others. To help do this, Iron Maiden will stage a very special benefit performance at Hammersmith Odeon on Friday 2nd September. The show, featuring songs from their first four albums (Iron Maiden, Killers, The Number Of The Beast and Piece of Mind) will by then have toured Europe and North America playing to almost one million delighted fans and this will be the final date of the tour and the very last time some of the songs in the set will played live by the band.

All the profits from the show and the Merchandising will be donated to the Trust and can then lift the fund back into action. All tickets will be £40 - and there will be no comps - not even for band families or management!!

Manager, Rod Smallwood commented 'We think our fans will fully understand the need to charge a slightly higher price for this special gig - there are many things the Trust needs to do such as modifications to Clive’s house to improve wheelchair access that would make Clive more comfortable. We were really pleased that Hammersmith Apollo was available as the band have a lot of history there and great memories. It’s a terrific venue to play from a fan’s perspective and will be huge contrast from our Headline appearance at the massive Reading Festival on Sunday 28th August. We just hope they will reopen the old backstage bar! The first time we played Hammersmith Odeon (as it was previously known) was on 14th March 1980 supporting Judas Priest just before the first album came out. The first headline appearance was during the ‘Killers’ tour in 1981, and of course Clive was with us on those occasions. In total we have played there 21 times including a succession of 5 sold out shows during the 1988 ‘Seventh Tour of A Seventh Tour’ as an addition to the arena tour for that album. So it’s a very appropriate place to play a gig for Clive and to end a tour based on our first four albums.'

Tickets, priced £40 will be offered to current fan club members first, and a special application form has today been sent by post directly to all members of the official Fan Club, IRON MAIDEN FC. Any remaining tickets will then go on sale to the public Monday 1st August through normal box office channels. Due to the large number of members of IRON MAIDEN FC to be fair we are limiting it to 2 tickets only per member on a first-come first-served basis.
