This five piece Scouse metal outfit have released a bobby dazzler of a debut EP here. Daft name but five tracks are included with some good stuff too. Taking a tough stance on soft rock they blitz into opener “Thru Me”, a smattering of Stone Sour with a cool riff, no time is wasted as they blister on through. “I Can Use You” is next up, singer Mark Smith (No E in sight for all The Fall fans!), appears to be straining a little on this one, hate to think what this does to his throat live? “Reason C” begins with a chunky riff and seems to fit more comfortably within Mr. Smith’s range and is all the better for it. This is an epic track, mature and swaggering, some lovely guitar underpinning great vocal work before we set off on a Pantera like finish. Fourth track “Resist” shows the band in more reflective mood, and Mr. Smith’s voice again suits the mellower approach. The quiet-loud-quiet approach works well on this song. Final effort “Nada” is melodic metal, but again I take issue with Mr. Smith straining his bollocks to reach a growl when, in his range, he’s got a powerful voice. Another great lolloping riff here (does a riff lollop?) to bring the curtain down on an impressive debut effort. If Rafa could just get Smithy to keep it down! |
