Wolfpack Unleashed are
one of a breed of new bands, alongside contemporaries such
as Evile and Municipal Waste, who are attempting to
bring back old school, Bay Area style Thrash to a new
generation of metal fans.
An example of the legacy upon which Wolfpack Unleashed draw
their inspiration for Anthems Of resistance is album opener
“Last Dance Of A Dying King”, a track which comes
across as a cross between heavyweights Metallica and
Destruction. Elsewhere on the CD “Religion Of Control”
proves to be a blistering no nonsense thrash track and gives
notice that frontman Günther
Wirth
has a fantastic set of lungs,
his singing style being both melodic,
yet at the same time remaining abrasive and extreme. And
Wolfpack Unleashed, as with all the best bands of the genre
can mix things up,
”Next
Victim”, a real riff-fueled beast proves slower than the
other tracks but none the less is still a winner. As for the
final track, “Wolfpack Unleashed” itself, it just goes to
shows the musical marksmanship of the Pack.
As with many of their forebears Wolfpack Unleashed deal with
a a variety of themes lyrically throughout the length of
Anthems Of Resistance: anti-war, religious extremism, the
last moments of Beethoven in “Eroica” as well as
abuse/abortion and personal loss, all making for a
heavyweight album.
These Austrians may have only been around since 2005, but
the Pack is strong and musically there are no flaws. If you
like thrash and melodic death metal then
definitely go and get this album!
