Now this is a strange one. Many of you will be aware that Warrant put out an excellent “comeback” album last year entitled Born Again, with Jaime St James having replaced Jani Lane on vocals. The album met with critical acclaim from mags, websites and fans alike and the songs were a rather pleasing mix of mature bluesy melodic rock, whilst keeping plenty of the old trademark Warrant vibe and sound…a little something for everyone. You can view HardRockHouse’s original review of the album on the following link to give you the lowdown on the actual songs themselves. http://www.hardrockhouse.com/NewReleases/Warrant.htm Since the release of the album, the band has been actively touring the US and has decided to put out this release that is quite unlike anything else I think I’ve ever come across. Basically they have mocked up a studio and filmed themselves playing the entire Born Again album and then inserted some still photographs, live footage and short video pieces into the songs to make them appear like promo videos. They have also included some bonus extras in the form of a behind-the-scenes making of the DVD feature and a tour video diary. As I hadn’t heard the album, I thought this was a great release, killing as it did, two birds with one stone, so to speak. If however you had bought the album last year, I’m not sure too many people are going to rush out and buy this as well. I’m surprised in this day and age that this ever made it past the idea stage, but fair play to MTM for actively promoting and supporting the band. Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking the quality of the product and I was genuinely impressed by the quality of the songs on offer, it’s just in the current climate in the industry, particularly in the rock genre, there doesn’t seem to be too much spare cash floating about, as compared to the good old days, for this type of thing to be released. Anyway, that’s not your problem, so if you haven’t got the album then I would recommend this DVD hugely. For me, this is the best set of songs Warrant has released since the classic Cherry Pie album and I think Jaime St James has done a brilliant job in the vocal department, bringing fresh life and a great new sound to a band I always liked anyway. |
