Trigger The Bloodshed - Purgation

Rising Records

Rating - 8/10

Review John Consterdine

Trigger The Bloodshed are tipped to be the next big thing in UK death metal and, with support slots for legendary acts such as Suffocation and Dying Fetus coming up later this year, the band are indeed potentially set for big things.

Kicking off the Bath quartet's debut album is “Inception”, an eighteen second blast of frantic energy that leads straight into “Merciless Ignorance” which is reminiscent of early Deicide and Cannibal Corpse with some weak traces of hardcore thrown in there as well.  “Laceration”, the bands first single from the album, is a death metal extravaganza, which puts most of the current deathcore rubbish to rest. After hearing this I can imagine Job For A Cowboy will be soon in need of new jobs. You can see why this was picked for the single release, as it is fused with different aspects from the whole death metal spectrum, everything from Nile to Hate Eternal and Suffocation to Death. The single is also accompanied by “Hollow Lovers” and “A Wretched Betrayal Retribution” but we’ll get to those later.

“Rebirth”, “The Defiled Severed” and “Impregnable Miscreation” continue to highlight the talents of this young band, they are to death metal what Bullet For My Valentine where to thrash in 2005, the best British prospect in years. “Hollow Lovers” reminds me of “Hammer Smashed Face” by gore legends Cannibal Corpse, even emulating Corpsegrinder’s vocal style, in complete contrast however “Mortuary Walls” is almost like the bastard child of Emperor, Slayer and even Rammstein, because of its efficient military precision.

“A Wretched Betrayal Retribution” and “The Abortive Becoming” keep the death metal flowing right up to the climax, the semi instrumental “A Perfect Casket” which, when it kicks in, leaves you six feet under. Trigger The Bloodshed are too good to be classed as deathcore, they are pure, old school inspired, blistering death metal at it’s finest. I am truly looking forward to catching these guys leave this summer, and I think you all should as well!
