The Sonic Hearts - To Be Someone

EMI

Rating - 6/10

Review Al Hey

Anyone who recently attended gigs by Amy Macdonald or Scouting For Girls at the latter end of 2007 may very well have been entertained by Liverpool’s Sonic Hearts, a band that featured on both bills.

“To Be Someone” is their new single and is taken from their forthcoming debut album “Sunrise” and it’s a catchy slice of uplifting pop with slight indie rock overtones. Actually it is instantly likeable and in no time will have anyone who can hum a tune singing along thanks to its melodic simplicity and straight ahead approach.

For many this song will be their first introduction to the band whose music is already being described as having echoes of Bryan Wilson, mutterings of Neil Young and whispers of Ryan Adams. For this reviewer though they sound more like a gentle version of Semisonic. One things for sure if their album has songs that are as well crafted as this one we can be sure of hearing The Sonic Hearts blasting out of many stereo’s in the very near future.
