The Delta Fiasco are a
difficult bunch to uncover any info about. Now this may be
an attempt at being enigmatic but, for whatever reason, all
I can tell you is that the three named individuals above
hail from Liverpool, Nathan sings and Simon drums so,
presumably Nick does everything else!!! (and half the
internet has them down as a duo as well....).
Anyhow I'll step down from my soapbox and get straight to
the music. On this promo the lead track comes in a variety
of remixes that get progressively more and more dance
oriented but as this may not be the case with the retail
version I'll stick to the two tracks highlighted.
This is one of the more leftfield releases to come in
through the HardRockHouse letterbox for a while, not what a
lot of people would consider "rock" at all, in fact only
anybody who includes The Bravery, the first Killers album
and the second Yeah Yeah Yeah's album as rock music would
even contemplate that The Delta Fiasco could be construed as
a rock band in any sense.
Nathan Walczak's vocals are immediately very striking in the
current scene. Equal parts Marc Almond, Siouxsie Sioux,
Brian Molko and Ian McCulloch. His delivery would imbue a
sense of drama even if he was reading through his shopping
list! Where The Delta Fiasco fail to capitalize on this
strength though is with some very average musical backing
that betrays that Killers/Bravery influence at almost every
turn. The Actor" actually starts off sounding like Franz
Ferdinand playing Blondie, and not in a good way either, and
a little bit of random electro beep and squawk here and
there doesn't an inventive tune make I'm afraid guys!
What The Delta Fiasco do have though is potential, and if
they can hone some songs to make use of Walczak's unique
vocals to best effect they could be huge but, at the moment,
in my opinion, there's a lot of work to be done.
