Takota - Satellite

Rating - 5/10

Review John Lewins

As this is the first single from a new band that features members of Spindle and Reel Big Fish I wasn't sure what to expect. This expectation was confused further by a quick scan of Takota's website as they seem to have an overly inflated vision of their music's importance, so much so that it evoked memories of Tom Delonge's hyperbole regarding his current Angels & Airwaves project, not a good start!

This notwithstanding "Satellite" is a reasonable stab at melodic "alt-metal" as it combines the best of the likes of Lostprophets with a vocal style reminiscent of HIM's Ville Valo. This is accentuated further by the epic keyboard and guitar intro that then falls away to a mainly bass and vocal verse which in all fairness would have fitted into "Dark Light" seamlessly.

That said, as a single its an enjoyable enough four minutes or so, but if the rest of the album follows a similar formula then it would quickly become boring, so lets hope that in their debut full length Takota have enough surprises in store to lend some credence to their bragadaccio
