Review Dougie

Takota were form by ex-Spindle member Grant Arnow and are produced by Atreyu drummer/vocalist Brandon Saller and have a common goal to be the biggest band in the world, low aims then guys? The band list their influences as Journey, Queen and led Zeppelin and aim to be a band in the Ziggy Stardust vein. However the music the band produce sound nothing like any of the above but it is great melodic punk/emo for the 21st century.

Now I’m a massive fan of Journey and the only thing this band have in common with Journey is the fact that the vocals are front and centre and very melodic, whereas the music underneath it all is a completely different kettle of fish, crunchy and punky at times,  the two opening tracks The Ivory Tower Satellite being prime examples

This makes for a great album as the singer carries the song and you can sing along without feeling a complete prat. The Led Zeppelin influences is felt mainly in the guitar sound and the drumming, but ion other places,  'City Drugs' for instance Takota sound like a heavy U2. Diversity also plays a major part in Takota's aims of world domination,  'Little Honesty'  Is a cool acoustic number until it kicks in whereas 'Diary' is an honest to goodnessballad and current single Car Park Conversation, which rounds off the album, is all style and panache plus the video is on the CD as well.

Biggest band in the world? Not yet by any mark, but a good start and the band can only build from this point and if you like your music melodic but rocking I would highly recommend this CD - MHR for the 21st century? Could be!
