Soular sound a
bit like Radiohead, well, quite a lot like Radiohead in fact.
Actually what Soular share most with Thom Yorke et al is the
ability to craft intelligently arranged, multi-dimensional,
quality music that shows a keen ear for detail and rewards
the repeat listener.
Take "So So This
Is The Way It Feels" as an example, the chorus is straight
out of the Muse book of alt-rock anthems, with its vocal
refrain and big guitars, but as well as this huge chorus
there are more subtle touches throughout that reveal a depth
to the composition should you care to find it.
There are
occasions where this subtlety and craft desert Soular but,
thankfully, these are rare. What "Love, Crash Heal" has in
abundance are tracks that have been composed as whole
entities, providing light and shade and dynamic interest
throughout and not just relying on a musical hook or catchy
chorus to get them through.
Anyone in the market for thoughtful, well executed, alt-rock
could do a lot worse than pick up a copy of "Love, Crash
Heal", it bridges a previously unfathomable gap between Muse
and Radiohead effortlessly and, as a band, Soular have
forged a sound that is (mainly) all their own.
