Sodom - The Final Sign Of Evil

SPV

Rating - 9/10

Review John Consterdine

Re-recording old material is something bands tend to do a lot these days, however in the case of Sodom they are actually releasing the album that they should have released way back in 1984, though with the addition of 7 bonus tracks, thus making the original EP into a full length album.

Opener “Sin Of Sodom” sounds like Mercyful Fate covering Iron Maiden. You can see where a lot of bands in the Black and Death metal scenes today got their influences from. The likes of Cradle Of Filth and Mayhem must have listened to Sodom in the early years. The songs which featured on Sodom's debut EP, The Sign Have Evil, “Blasphemer”,” Witching Metal” and “Outbreak Of Evil”, like all of the tracks featured here have re-recorded and re-mastered for this album and it is, quite simply, a pleasure to hear the original Sodom line- up in digital sound.

The remaining seven songs, highlights of which include “Bloody Corpse”, “Sons Of Hell” and “Hatred Of The Gods”, had, until recently, been locked away in the Sodom achieves and they fit into the album perfectly. It's just a shame they we have had to wait 23 years to hear them!

Overall “The Final Sign of Evil” is a fantastic album that every metal fan should own; it has elements of Black and Death metal mixed in with one hundred percent pure thrash! Whether you own the original EP or are new to the Sodom ranks, then this should definitely be in your CD collection!
