Slaves To Gravity - Mr. Regulator
Gravitas

In the audio version of the Oxford English Dictionary, next to the word “chorus”, there should be an MP3 of this track from London four-piece Slaves to Gravity. Covered in the sumptuously consistent production of Chris Sheldon (Foo Fighters, Feeder, Biffy Clyro) “Mr Regulator” swaggers across its three and a half minutes like Slash after a few shandies. This is bell bottom-swinging, good-time, Southern-tinged rock that blows the socks off any brow-creasing American emo or artsy-fartsy post-whatever. B-side “Power Lines” is more on the quiet, intellectual side of the room, opposite the crazy-dancing, heavy-drinking, chick-magnetism of “Mr Regulator”, favouring toned down guitars to accompany the crystal-clear vocals of Tommy Gleeson. Taking their cues from everyone from the Foos, Black Crowes, Incubus and even the lyrical delivery of Chris Cornell, this won’t be everyone’s shot of Jack’s – “not heavy enough”, “too clean sounding” – but it undeniably wipes the floor with pretty much everything else claiming to be rock music at the moment.
