On listening to Sacred
Mother Tongue most would probably swear they were American.
There is a very strong influence from the likes of Trivium
(via Metallica) and other’s too numerous to mention. Yet
they started life in 2004 in the Milton Keynes/Northampton
area. The production is
excellent and this is a taster for their debut album said to
be released in the Autumn. It’s a slickness not
often associated with British acts and if they can reproduce
it on their debut CD then I predict Sacred Mother Tongue
might do very well for themselves.
The two tracks on offer
very much epitomise modern metal with ultra tight playing,
monster drumming and vocals that are gravel one minute and
soaring falsetto the next. The level of musicianship is high
and leading track Two Thousand Eight Hundred is classic
Satellite TV Rock Station fodder.
There’s nothing new here
but really I can’t fault the band when they are clearly
doing this stuff as well as anybody out there at the moment.
Trouble is with only two tracks to review all will depend on
said debut release. And of course how they come over in the
media. Something sadly too much emphasis is made of these
days.
Impressive stuff then and
given some financial backing and exposure they could compete
with some of the American bands they are so clearly
influenced by. It’s up to someone to put their money where
their mouth is. But that’s rarely the case these days.
