Reasonable Doubt - Built To Resist CD Review

Ignore the cheap looking cover and the sonically flat production and on this CD you will find a young five piece that hark back to the glory days of the old school Bay Area Thrashers. There is some effective use of the growing trend of part 'clean' and part 'screamo' vocals, injecting the songs with melodic moments, but for the most part this is no-nonsense heads down Thrash Metal played with plenty of energy and enthusiasm. Taking their inspiration from bands such as Killswitch Engage, Metallica and Machine Head, Reasonable Doubt are a band that could easily fall into the 'New Wave Of American Heavy Metal' category were it not for the fact that they are actually based in Kent.

'Ground Level' kicks things off with some precision riffing, twin guitar harmonies and an instant chorus, frontman Tynman having a decent voice seemingly at ease with the alternating vocal styles. ‘Before The End Of Time’ starts with a battery of machine gun drumming and this is where you really begin to notice the limitations of the production; it's almost as if you are waiting for the song to really kick in...except that it doesn't. However, this is only a minor point and in the fullness of time they will hopefully get the opportunity to record in a decent studio with a producer who can capture their “on stage” sound. At this moment Reasonable Doubt are likely best experienced in the live environment and if mosh pit mayhem is your sort of thing then they are certainly worthy of your time.
