Primordial - To The Nameless Dead
Metal Blade

Nevermind “The Blackening” here’s Primordial. These Irish metallers return with their latest opus “To The Nameless Dead”, which to be honest, blows the socks off every other metal album this year. Clocking in it with a mere eight tracks, it may seem like a short album, but it is a good hour long, with the shortest track, excluding the instrumental “The Rising Tide”, running at six minutes in length. Opener, “Empire Falls” is, what could be described as, an epic masterpiece. Imagine traditional Irish music fused with melodic death metal and frontman A. A. Nemtheanga singing like his life depended upon it. Deep down you can hear the bands influences, ranging from Sabbat to Sodom, with just a dash of Sepultura thrown in. But, and it's a big but, they have broken away and created something magical with To The Nameless Dead, which can definitely be heard on the fantastic, nine minute, “As Rome Burns”. This album is a fantastic purchase, with “Failures Burden” and “No Nation On This Earth” strengthening the cause. For those who have never heard of Primordial then this is definitely an album you should buy, as it blows every album this year out of the water, and is one that could finally see Primordial break into the mainstream metal community. For those who have been following them since the early days, album six is their “Master Of Puppets”, hands down! Again one can't reiterate enough that To The Nameless Dead is, by far, the album of the year, and its sheer diversity and length are more than enough to keep you salivating until they hit our shores sometime soon. Forgot Battle Metal, Pagan Metal, Viking Metal etc, Celtic Metal is the future!! |
