In10sity is the debut album on Frontiers for Pink Cream 69, although it is their 10 studio album overall and marks the band’s 20th anniversary, having been formed way back in 1987. It’s been three years since they released the critically acclaimed “Thunderdome” and put on a fantastic show at the very first Firefest, so this is an eagerly anticipated release by many melodic rock fans. I’m pleased to say that they have lived up to all expectations and delivered a superb album of melodic rock, graced by the usual faultless production by Dennis Ward, who of course just happens to be their bassist. The addition of a second guitarist has definitely beefed up their sound and where there once would have been keyboards, now there are more guitars resulting in a much heavier proposition. They never lose sight of their melodic roots, however The album kicks off with “Children Of The Dawn” and it’s immediately clear that vocalist David Readman is on top form, displaying his uncanny ability to mix power with melody. “No Way Out” comes next and has another great and catchy chorus to go with some fine guitar work. “Crossfire” has another trademark great chorus, a funky verse structure and a brilliant guitar hook that stays with you long after the album is done. The quality continues with “I’m Not Afraid”, another classy uptempo rocker, with a great guitar solo. “A New Religion” contains yet another memorable chorus, which is very much the album’s stock trait. “The Hour Of Freedom” is a dark and brooding track that leads into “Stop This Madness”, which uses an effective newsreel-type spoken word section to emphasise its central theme. “Desert Land” is a minute and a half’s worth of empassioned vocals and stripped back guitar. “Out Of This World” and “It’s Just A State Of Mind” are another couple of punchy, driving rockers before the anthemic “Wanna Hear You Rock” with its slightly cheesy, albeit totally apt, sentiment. European bonus track “My Darkest Hour” is back to the driving rock style before album closer “Last Train To Nowhere” rounds things off in huge power-ballad style. Overall this is a brilliant slab of melodic rock which will not disappoint their many fans and which may win them many more besides. I am also sure it will feature in many peoples Top 10 lists come the end of the year. Highly recommended. In10sity is released on March 26th through Frontiers |
