The Orange Man Theory - Riding A Cannibal Horse From Here To...

Indelirium

Rating - 8/10

Review Dean Pedley

If ear splitting, teeth gnashing extreme metal is your cup of tea then this is definitely an album worthy of your time and attention. The Orange Man Theory formed in Rome in 2003 and recorded this, their debut album, in the US with underground producer Steve Austin (from Today Is The Day) in the summer of 2004. It finally saw the light of day at the end of 2005 and critically acclaimed at the time it now gets a re-release to co-incide with plenty of activity in the OMT camp. Austin proves to be an inspired choice, providing a gritty, down to earth production that sits well with the bands menacing undercurrent.

This is a band that like to do things their own way - song structure is thrown out of the window and the tracks here are equal parts melody, metal and chaos. If you are tired of bland and uninspired song titles then look no further than ‘Vortex Of Cows Into The Sweet Tornado’ or Merendina Will Have His Revenge On Capeside’ and they even manage to get some movie samples into ‘Where We’re Going We Don’t Need Roads’ (I’ll let you work out exactly which movie but the clue is in the title folks).

Vocalist Gianni is straight out of the school that blends melody with screamo and he shines throughout, ably assisted by some seriously heavy riffing from guitarist Gabbo. There are some high quality moments of controlled aggression, notably on ‘Vampires In The Sun’ (the most obvious track where the vocals go from “scream” to “clean”) and the title track. And whilst this is squarely aimed at fans of contemporary, modern metal their influences can be traced back to the 70’s and the stoner rock style of ‘Masters of Reality’.

An accomplished slice of hardcore with an accessible rock groove, ‘Riding A Cannibal Horse From Here To...' is released on 20th August through Indelerium records and The Orange Man Theory have a full European Tour planned for the autumn.
