There must be something in the water in Sweden. Yet another release from that part of the world, this time an independent effort. Think of the likes of Thunderstone and you have got a handle on the MOB sound. How do they do it? The rock scene is so prolific up in Scandinavia right now that it puts Blighty to shame. Sure we have some innovative bands in the UK right now but for the most part there are just too many mediocre acts sounding like noisy, tuneless drivel. It’s a case of the ‘Emperor’s new clothes’ with some of them. Regular readers will know that I’m a staunch advocate of new British bands but at the moment it’s gone into meltdown. MOB are hardly groundbreaking but what they do, they do extremely well. Professionalism is a by word for many Swedish bands and MOB are no exception. Say what you like but nearly every band I’ve heard recently from up there has delivered something that, at the very least, is listenable. Ok so MOB currently lack that spark of genius that could send them into the big league but ‘The Greatest Enemy’ is a very worthy addition to the Power Melodic Rock scene that guys like Thunderstone inhabit. Opener ‘Back On Track’ sets the ball rolling nicely and the standard never drops throughout. The band are also rightly proud of the title track and the album as a whole passes the ‘repeated listen to in the car’ test with ease. Released by the band themselves ‘The Greatest Enemy’ is highly recommended for all fans of contemporary Melodic Metal. Let us know your views on The Greatest Enemy
