Lights. Action! - All Eyes To The Morning Sun

Xtra Mile

Rating - 8/10

Review Dean Pedley

Debut mini-Lp from a band who had a pretty successful time of things throughout 2007. Strong reviews for their first two singles (both of which are included here), good levels of airplay and an appearance at Download has seen them build a decent following with the prospect of bigger things to come. For a band still in its infancy the songs demonstrate a sophistication and maturity that quickly sets Lights. Action! apart from many of their contemporaries. Teaming up with acclaimed producer Richard Wilkinson (The Magic Numbers, Paul Weller) has resulted in a huge arena-rock sound whilst retaining enough of an indie vibe to keep their young fanbase on the hook.

Vocalist Patrick Currier gives a strong and emotional delivery, equal parts Chris Martin and Grant Nicholas, highlighted to perfection on the quirky 'Hide and Seek', a soaring chorus offset by the moody verses. New, download only, single 'Aurora' packs a real punch and should be the song that sets them on the way to becoming radio regulars. The dramatic and uplifting 'Satellites' hangs together wonderfully well and you just know this is a band who have spent hours, days, weeks and months honing their songwriting skills to make sure they get everything in just the right place.

'All Eyes To The Morning Sun' is available now in all of the usual places with a full debut album scheduled to follow later this year. With only six songs here you will definitely be left wanting to hear more and Lights. Action! are well worth keeping an eye on.
