Lethal Fixx - Beautiful People EP

Axe Wound

Rating - 8/10

Review Simon Bray

The Fixx seem to be stuck in 1988 which may or may not be a good thing. They have even appeared on the same stage as Jack Viper which certainly isn’t a good thing but let’s judge them on their own merits, shall we? Rather like the E.P itself this review this likely to be somewhat short as there is only fifteen minutes music on this piece of plastic. It’s really quite fine music though and at the end you either want more or have to spin it again.

I imagine that actually seeing them perform may spoil the Fixx for me as they look somewhat like what the cat dragged in (can you see what I did there?) I suspect that like Jack Viper they pull all the right moves and shapes but unlike the Viper their songs are good. They’ve got a Parental Advisory sticker on the cover and a song called Mainline Traxx that I’m fairly confident isn’t about trains! Image-wise all bases are covered.

They’re also ludicrously dumb and sing-a-long which is, I’d have thought the hallmark of a good glam rock band. All of the five songs herein rock along at a good pace with the standout tracks being the opener 1x Love, 1x Life and Miss Lonely Hearts which is the penultimate song.

The guitars throughout are punchy and the rhythm section keep up a crazy beat and they stick very nicely within the confines of the chosen genre. There’s certainly more talent here than most of the shite that’s currently being paraded by major labels.

On their myspace site there are some rave reviews and I think they are somewhat over the top but as an introduction to a promising new act you won’t go far wrong with this E.P.
