LAP - Point & Shoot
Populus

Hot on the heels of their highly regarded mini-LP “Life Amongst People” comes this up-tempo single. With “Point & Shoot” LAP seem to be trying too hard to get as many ideas as possible into a relatively short period of time, even the slightly elongated remastered version is less than four minutes long. The result is a decent, yet slightly frustrating alt-rock track with a distinct “screamo” flavour. The lyrics rail against the notions of style over substance and the musical backing provides a constantly shifting dynamic, with the combination of tempos ensuring that your attention doesn't wander. But it all seems to lack a bit of cohesion and there may have been a case for advocating “less is more” in terms of the amount of riffs and changes, in the later part of the tune especially. The result though will still find favour amongst fans of Senses Fail or Saosin so may be worth a trip to the itunes store - personally I would download the remastered version, its got a slightly more polished sound. |
