LAP - Life Among People

Distort Records

Rating - 6/10

Review Deano

'Life Among People' is seven songs that hit you in an energetic 22 minute burst from this Manchester based Hardcore trio that have been together since the end of 2003. Opening track 'I Am' wouldn't have sounded out of place on an early Foo Fighters album, full of snarling vocals and aggressive guitars and it sets a standard that the rest of material here can't quite live up to.

LAP can clearly play well enough and yet they seem to be a bit pushed for a vocalist. Tony screams himself almost hoarse on the majority of the songs and the lyrics are virtually indecipherable at times. Admittedly this works well on the wonderfully titled 90 second blast 'The Velvet Soft Voice of a Music Legend' which is just the sort of thing you can imagine John Peel would have loved. However, given that the lyrical subject matter is said to tackle issues such as racism, war and the apathy of our nation it would have been interesting if there was greater clarity in the delivery, particularly on 'Sit Back' and 'TV Diet'.

That said, LAP appear to have a clear direction and style that they wish to go in and credit to them for battling against the mainstream and putting in the necessary financial backing to ensure this release saw the light of day. This is an album played with guts and delivered with determination.

'Life Among People' is released on July 10th on Distort Manchester Records and the band are on tour throughout July
