Over a year after it's US release Jones Gang's 'Any Day Now' finally sees the light of day in the UK on October 16th through But Records to coincide with the bands appearance at London's Shepherds Bush Empire on October 24th... But who are the Jones Gang I hear you ask? Well drummer Kenney Jones will be familiar with many from his time with The Who and also The Faces. Bassist Rick Willis previously plied his trade with the likes of Camel, The Small Faces and Foreigner and then finally vocalist Robert Hart, a long time favourite of this reviewer, worked with The Distance & Bad Company as well as releasing a couple of solo albums. It's perhaps not surprising given the talent featured in Jones Gang and their past endeavours that the music the band produces comes across as a perfect mix of later day Bad Company with Rod Stewart and the Who. In fact the whole album has a strong 70’s vibe running through it. However thanks to the quality of the song writing, in the main co-writes by Hart, and the very modern production job the album does not sound at all dated and has even produced two big hits in the US courtesy of Angel (which goes to show you cannot keep a good song down as the original appeared on the Hart solo album) and Gypsy Lane, a touching tribute to Faces band member and good mate Ronnie Lane which also features Ronnie Wood on guitar and Ian "Mac" McLean on keyboards also x Faces members. Good catchy songs well played and well sung, what more do want from album? |
