Whilst this album is very much on the edge of what we cover here at HRH it deserves reviewing for one very good reason, it’s a fine collection of catchy memorable songs that, whilst very mainstream in appeal, fans of well written and well performed music will enjoy.
OK so it’s not screaming vocals and over
the top guitar playing, in fact the whole album has very 70’s singer/songwriter write vibe to
it from McManus' Leo Sayer-esque style Afro haircut
on the cover shot to the lack of synths apparent in the mix,
indeed most of the keyboards are
piano and this gives the songs an almost organic feel to
them. It's almost the sort of music you would expect to see
someone playing sitting in the corner of
wine bar rather than on an arena stage with a
huge band but good songs are good song sin whatever setting.
Current single Bang On This Piano has
been banging round my head for weeks now and, thanks to the
recent warm spell the whole album has been drifting out over
the Douglas family patio as it makes great listening period.
All in all Either Side Of Midnight is simply a good collection of tunes
that you can expect to be
hearing a lot more of over the coming months. If like AOR
try this you might like it, for you rockers out there it
never hurts to take foot off the gas every once in the while
and chill.
