Nobody warned me that reviewing albums could be hazardous to my health. I was listening to this album on my MP3 player when I was hit by car a few weeks ago. However this has not effected my view of this album, it is stunning! Ian Parry first came to my attention back in '93 when he opened the first Gods of AOR in Manchester in support of his then first solo album, the only other material I'd heard from him at the time was his vocal work on the Misha Calvin 'Evolution' albums. However before he went solo his first big break was with the band Vengence, where once again he provided the vocals. Tow of these album, 'Last Of The Fallen Heroes' and 'Vengeance' also featured a certain Arjen Lucaasen of Ayeron/Stream Of Passion on guitar and since those days Parry has also contributed vocals to several of the Ayeron albums. You could say that Parry has an impressive pedigree. So with 'Vision', whilst it is a solo album in terms of the bulk of the writing or co-writing Parry has also invited one or two friends along for the ride. Opening with the excellent 'Innocent Minds' with its use of females vocals, you get the crunching guitar an it perfectly kicks off a rollercoaster of an album. From the hard rock 'Heaven Of Angels' to the [pure AOR of 'Fools Don’t Cry' to the absolute stunning finale of the title track itself, 'Visions is album that covers all of the bases and has something for every rock fan. Whether your pleasure is hard rock, classic rock or even the more majestic leanings of prog/pomp rock you'll find something here that rocks your boat. Visions is simply a great album and one that, despite listening to time and time again, I've yet to get bored with, nuff said! |
