I Killed Pharaoh - Home EP

Holier Than Thou

Rating - 7/10

Review Deano

They might have a bit of daft name but here we have a decent sounding EP from this four-piece who cite influences ranging from The Wildhearts and Tool to Brian Wilson and Primus. Title track ‘Home’ kicks things off and is a solid alternative rock tune, big on melody and high on enthusiasm. Vocalist Ven has a tendency to be a bit whiny on occasions, particularly on the chorus of ‘King Hell Breakthrough’ but this is only a minor quibble and overall his voice is well suited to the material. Highlight for me is ‘The Blame’ which comes across as a tormented sonic howl and boasts an infectious driving rhythm and haunting backing vocals. Good stuff.

Definitely a band to watch out for over the next 12 months.

The ‘Home’ EP is released on December 18th and you can find out more at www.myspace.com/ikp and www.ikilledpharaoh.co.uk and the band have a full UK tour planned for early 2007.
