IIIrd Sovereign - Destined To Suffer

Demonstealer

Rating - 3.5/10

Review Darren Brushneen

With an album title such as Destined To Suffer, a booklet containing photos of skulls and a picture of someone impaled on a cross on the cover Indian band IIIrd Sovereign drop more than a subtle hint of what they sound like even before the CD is played.

With Destined To Suffer they have produced a short, heavy album in the vein of bands such as Nile and Cannibal Corpse, with singer Vedant having a vocal style similar to those bands. Annoyingly, even though they manage to produce some good music on this album they never manage to keep it going throughout a song.  Opening track, “Pathetic Ignorance”, has a riff that sounds like a rock tune made heavy, the title track, “Destined To Suffer”, has a memorable chorus, “Gathering Of Lies” has head nodding tunes and  “Necrophobia” has less extreme vocals, making it one of the more listenable songs on the album.  Sadly as quickly as any of these good points, on what is overall a bit of a bland album, get started they are gone as the band revert back into an unimaginative imitation of bands of a similar ilk.

Being more of a fan of certain songs in this style, rather than albums or bands, I may be doing IIIrd Sovereign an injustice.  However, there are bands out there doing this style of death metal much better and more consistently than that produced on Destined To Suffer.
