Honour Among None - The Art Of Survival
Rating - 7.5/10

The latest Welsh Metal export, Honour Among None are definitely more in the Bullet For My Valentine / Funeral For A Friend camp as opposed to Lostprophets / The Automatic. ‘The Art of Survival’ is their debut EP and comprises six tracks with a running time of just under 25 minutes. A six piece, they have two vocalists – one ‘growl’ and one ‘clean’ – and anyone who has read some of my recent reviews will know I am getting a little tired of this format. However, I am pleased to report that, broadly speaking, Honour Among None succeed in doing something a little bit different and this is a very encouraging start. There is a lot going on across the six songs - energetic rhythms, strong riffing and some inspired moments of melody, particularly on the two stand out tracks, ‘Lost’ and ‘Face To Face’. Quite a few influences spring to mind – Pantera, Dillinger Escape Plan and even Opeth. The drumming is superb throughout and the production of a very high quality. Presumably earmarked as the track most likely to be picked up by radio, ‘Face To Face’ appears again at the end in edited form. On the strength of this debut release we are looking at another Welsh success story. They might not be the finished article yet but certainly have the potential to do very well. Checking out their tour dates for the rest of the year these seem to be confined to Wales at present, but hopefully we will get to see them across the UK when the EP is released. ‘The Art of Survival’ is released on December 11th and you can find out more at http://www.honouramongnone.co.uk/ |
