Guido Priori - Journey Tribute

Review - Dougie

I’ve recently joined the 21st century and made the up-grade to broadband. The biggest up-side of this is the fact that the increased bandwidth gives me the chance to listen to music clips and samples quickly rather than the week it used to take via the old Dial UP.

Having made the switch I remembered reading about this particular tribute to Journey from an old issue of Powerplay mag in Rob Evans AOR underground section. It peaked my interest at he time as I’ve all ways loved Journey and I’m all ways interested in anybody who tries and emulate Steve Perry, as it bloody difficult to do! So after logging on to the website http://gpriorijourneytribute.homestead.com/ I had a listen and was well impressed! A quick e-mail or two later with head honcho Guido Priori and the CD duly landed on my doormat - no small feat with my post I can tell you.

For this particular Journey tribute Guido has assembled an excellent bunch of musicians who replicate the Journey sound to a T, deserving of particular praise is guitarist Mark Andrews, who replicates off all of those infamous Neal Schon’s  flourishes flawlessly.

But what of Guido's vocals, I hear you ask? One word Brilliant! Now nobody could accuse him of being A Perry clone, but the CD shows is that he has both the power and the range to carry these songs on his own terms and in his own style. The vocals are great throughout the album and any AOR/Melodic rock band would benefit greatly from having him in their ranks. But don’t just take my word for it check out the website and have a listen for yourself!

In fact since the recording of the CD Guido has formed/joined an original Italian based melodic rock band called My Land and I for one cannot wait to hear the finished album that they are currently working on based on the standard on show here.

What this Journey CD has done is two fold: firstly serving its its purpose in getting the name of Guido Priori  into the market place and secondly it shows, and emphasizes  his love of Journey  and the influence that that band has had on a whole generation of musicians.
