Review Dougie

Grace Solero are a multi national band based in London and are built around the songs and voice of frontwoman Grace. The band have been described as alterative rock but the sound they have come up with for New Moon is far more accessible than such a tag would suggest, in fact the whole albums is reminiscent of Alanis Morissette jamming with Skunk Anansie, with a bit of Blondie and the Di Vinyl’s thrown in for good measure.

Grace herself possesses an excellent voice and certainly writes some good songs if at time they do feel a little bit samey in terms of delivery and arrangements. However with new Moon the band have created an album that is likely to have a level of mass appeal to the average Joe public as well as to the rock/ alterative crowd thanks to a collection of catchy, snappy tunes. Add to the mix the fact Grace is a rather attractive young lady and the outfit have all the necessary ingredients to be as successful as the aforementioned Ms. Morrissette.

Highlights include opener If U Feel, a song based around a clever riff and you can check the video over at the bands my space. New Place and No More Tears are also pretty good, both very are much in the Morissette mould and with the right promotion could easily see chart action. Elsewhere Star sees the band move in an acoustic direction and is a well observed piece of writing.

Overall New Moon is a very enjoyable album and one that shows great potential. The second album when it comes will be one well worth looking out for.
