If you miss the goodtime rock music of the late 80s / early 90s, then this may just be the very CD you have been waiting for. It’s absolutely chock full of great songs with a positive vibe and melodies which you find going round your head long after the disc has stopped spinning. You may be familiar with their lead singer, Marc Ferreira, who released a critically acclaimed solo album, “Fallen Heroes”, in 2002 and indeed a couple of the tracks from that release have been re-recorded for this album. And so to the songs. The album kicks off with the summery sounding “Super Perfect World” which is the ideal way to set the tone for everything which follows. Ferreira has a really good melodic rock voice with very little accent despite his Brazilian heritage. Guitarist Dean Cramer provides many excellent solos throughout the album, without taking over or away from the songs themselves…perfectly judged playing. The lyrics to most of the songs don’t stand up to too much scrutiny, but hey, these guys are all about having fun and sounding great, not changing the world!! Second track, “Ticket To Paradise” is one of the highlights of the album with an amazing Def-Leppard-esque backing vocal track which is impossible not to like. Most of the songs have really memorable choruses too, which add to the overall enjoyment of the album. “Rainy Days” is up next and is another strong track with some cool guitar work and a feel good sound…quite the opposite of the song’s subject matter. “Give You Away” follows in the same tradition and you can easily imagine yourself driving down one of those long highways in the States you see in the films with this album at full volume and the top down….we can all dream, I suppose.....even if it is in clichés!!! The next song, “Let Me Sleep”, is the first of a couple written by songwriter Jace Pawlak and if the quality of these two efforts is anything to go by, he’s definitely a name to watch out for in the future. Great stuff, once more. At no time does the CD let up in quality terms and “Dead To Me”, “Fallen Heroes” and “It’s Got To Be” are no exceptions with great melodies and Ferreira’s excellent voice the icing on the cake. The second of the Pawlak-penned tunes, “Leap Of Faith” shows again the writer’s strength with a change of pace, but no loss of quality, in the form of an old-fashioned power ballad type song. The album rounds off with “Taste” and “Hungry”, both of which return to the up-tempo feel good rock which is so very appealing. Overall a great album which successfully evokes memories of simpler and happier times which were so full of good time music. It’s bound to lift the spirits of all but the most miserable listener. A hugely refreshing album which I wholeheartedly recommend to you all. Superb. |
