The delightfully named Fuck Shovel seem to be creating a bit of a buzz for themselves, not just for the shock value of their name but also with the cover art for this debut single, being that it reprises the Sex Pistols iconic “God Save The Queen” cover but replaces the image of Elizabeth Windsor with one of Diana Spencer. Not something which will win the band friends in the populace at large perhaps  but will surely help cement their status as a band your mum and dad wouldn't approve of.

Is there anything to back this such an abrasive stance though? Actually there is. Both tracks on the single being up-tempo classic thrash in a similar vein to “Spreading The Disease” era Anthrax or Nuclear Assault circa “Game Over” with the infectious chorus of “Long Time Dead” making it the perfect choice for the lead single from the band.

Whilst this style of thrash is a great diversion to the abundance of very average metalcore and emo bands out there at the moment there's only going to be any kind of longevity in the scene if the bands like Fuck Shovel start to stamp their own identity on the music. This single is a very solid introduction to a band not afraid to put themselves right in your face, what they do next could be very interesting indeed.
