'This absolute gem of a melodic rock offering is a collaboration between one-time Toto vocalist Dennis “Fergie” Frederiksen and multi-talented Tommy Denander, one of the most prolific and hard-working musicians in the genre. Frederiksen has previously contributed vocals to Denander’s Radioactive releases, but this is the first time they have collaborated in this manner. Frederiksen has also appeared on albums by Mecca, Le Roux and Trillion whilst Denander has credits on over 1000 albums as songwriter, musician and producer. With such impressive credentials behind them, you would expect a classy, well-written and well-played album and that is precisely what we have here. This is melodic rock served up to perfection with every element of the genre present in abundance - superb vocals, sweeping choruses, great hooks and solos, beautifully crafted songs and an awesome production to top it all off. There is no question that come the end of the year, this album will figure very highly on all melodic rock lovers’ Top 10 lists. OK, so it’s not going to win any prizes for originality, but how refreshing is it when some really talented musicians live up to exactly what you had hoped from them…let’s face it, how many times have you been looking forward to a particular release, only to feel let down when it isn’t quite as good as you’d hoped. No such worries here. There’s also a melodic rock who’s who of special guests scattered throughout, in the shape of Ricky Phillips, Jim Peterik, Michael Thompson and Steve Porcaro offering both songwriting and musical support. And so to the songs. Kicking us off is the excellent “Let Him Go”, with a fantastic riff chugging the song along and Frederiksen’s empassioned vocals providing the icing on the cake. Other album highlights come in the shape of “Crossing Over”, “Written In Stone”, “Never Try To Love Again” and the title track itself. Although, to be fair there’s not really a poor track anywhere on the album. I can recommend this unreservedly to all melodic rock lovers out there. You will not find too many releases as good as this in this genre. Enjoy !!! |
