Fortune Favours are a brand new band based in Cardiff. The band's demo caught the ears of Radio One's Huw Stephens which helped them pick up attention from Metal Hammer magazine who ran a few features on the band and now, with Underneath These Lights, the band are finally releasing their debut single to the masses. If there’s any justice in this fickle world of rock n roll then Fortune Favours deserve to achieve great things.

From the off “The Sound Of Your Heartbeat” grabs the listener by the scruff of the neck and doesn’t let go till the dying seconds of its three and a half minute length. On an energy level from one to ten these guys rate an eleven thanks to the exceptionally upbeat and driving drums and superb melodic fat and fruity guitar riffing. The song itself hits the spot thanks to a great chorus which one instinctively knows will be one of those crowd participating moments at live shows. The single also includes the track “Underneath These Lights” where the band show a different side to their make up with a mid tempo brooding rocker that will be the lighters in the air moment at future gigs.

Fortune Favours are definitely a welcome addition to the rock world as their music is vibrant, punchy and fresh. Everything about them feels honest and sincere and, rather than putting their music in a box, vocalist Pistol Pete has taken the right stance by simply stating “We’re just a rock n roll band”. On the evidence of these two songs I couldn’t agree more. Here’s hoping this band can break through and go places.
