Debut album from Hardcore UK five-piece that have been in their current incarnation for about a year. In addition to appealing to the hardcore and post-hardcore listeners ‘This Is Our Fight’ will also have some cross-over appeal to the Metalcore fans amongst you. The nine songs are delivered in little more than 27 minutes and played at an unrelenting pace, with an extremely large dose of screeching guitars, throaty vocals and powerful rhythms. 

‘And So It Begins’ is a menacing and ominous instrumental opener that leads into the destructive ‘I Smile At Your Terror’. As you would expect with a hardcore act vocalist Leigh Cripps gives an aggressive performance, but he also manages to blend in some more subtle and natural elements that prove him to be more than capable of extending his range. The guitar solos and riffing on ‘Grey Day’, ‘Case Against You’ and ‘A Promise Made’ show a more metallic side to the band and with two guitarists in the line-up they complement each other well. 

If there is one thing about the whole hardcore scene that I find particularly unappealing then it has to be the (all too frequent) subject matter of the lyrics with their call to arms and combative nature. This is exemplified here by such lines as “A promise made from me to you / Fight, Fight, Fight” and “This time I won’t run, this time I will kill / This time I’m preying on you”, and also by the blood stained hammer and nail-through-wood on the sleeve. This aside, For Those Lost do have some good musical ideas to offer and save the best track for last; ‘The Blue Horizon’ incorporates an effective acoustic interlude and piano outro that suggests they are willing to diversify. 

An encouraging debut release, ‘This Is Our Fight’ is released on 23^rd October on Engineer Records and a full UK tour is scheduled for November and December.
