Debut four track EP from the five-piece Hertfordshire rockers who have already received critical acclaim for their demo recordings from BBC Radio 1 and Kerrang! This has been produced by Hundred Reasons guitarist and songwriter Larry Hibbitt who does a good job of ensuring this is a well-polished effort, combining the bands alternative, modern rock qualities with their more retro influences. ‘To Sore To See’ has a huge rock sound with a strong chorus and vocalist Simon Jack has an instant, powerful voice that soars above the music, and conveys a strong sense of emotion. ‘You Will Forget’, the shortest track here at just two and a half minutes, is probably their best chance of securing airplay, Jack again showing the depth and range he can achieve and the guitar riffing is pure and simple classic rock. The other two tracks are perhaps not quite as strong but ‘So Long, Farewell’ has a nice harmony vocal and, again, the classic rock sound is much in evidence. This is a very promising start and it will be interesting to see how this band progress. ‘Embers’ is released on 6th November through Majour Records and Firstborn are on tour around the UK for much of the remainder of the year – check out the dates at www.myspace.com/firstbornrock |
