Elle Milano - Meanwhile In Hollywood

Brighton Electric Music

Rating - 7.5/10

Review Mike Clark

Elle Milano are a relatively new band I had actually heard of, given that they are generating a degree of buzz in the underbelly of the rock world, although I hadn't heard any of their material and hence I approached this single review with some interest.

First up is the title track of the single “Meanwhile In Hollywood” which is a very good choice if the hope is to garner radio play. A very catchy number that is reminiscent in parts of Terrorvision, though there are moments which sound more like the mellower side of the Foo Fighter and should appeal to a wide fan base and, with a little luck, might get the band some decent exposure.

The second track on the single is the unusually named “Ringtone Advertising Director”, which also boasts a more unusual sound with large nods to Madness and maybe even The Clash, especially vocally. A highly eclectic number with various style references running throughout,  it should be a cracking number live. Finally the single closes with “Showroom Furniture”, a more mellow number which has a melancholy feel. Not as strong as the first two tracks, I'm not sure the vocals work particularly well with this style of song, all in all though this is an impressive release and bodes well for the forthcoming album.
