Dr. Slaggleberry - Dr. Dlaggleberry

Crash

Rating - 8/10

Review John Consterdine

When I was first asked whether I wanted to review this new EP by Dr. Slaggleberry, I was at first tempted purely by the name alone but then, listening to opening track “Hitss”, I realised they were something quite different. The band have been previously descried as Math Metal, Jazzcore and even Progressive, though perhaps a more accurate explanation of their sound is Frank Zappa dabbling in the world of Grindcore. ”Ugly Duck” is truly a monster, with examples of Sikth, Mr Bungle and even some Cannibal Corpse cropping into the band’s sound, making it truly bizarre but undoubtedly unique.

“Scat” is a complete mish mash of noises and sounds, sounding like a cross between the Jawas from Star Wars and the Pac Man games on smack. Finally “Gobo” sounds just as experimental and bizarre as Les Claypool and Primus however the band are kind enough to throw in some very atmospheric Tool sections as well.  Dr. Slaggleberry are the next step in musical evolution, it's best to brace yourself the first time you listen to them, they could just blow your mind!
