Diamond Head - What's In Your Head

Diamond Head are one of the more under rated outfits to arisen from the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), rather like Raven or Tygers Of Pan Tang, as opposed to the more memorable, and successful, bands like Iron Maiden, Motorhead and Saxon. Formed back in 1976 in Stourbridge, they were one of the leading members of the NWOBHM and are acknowledged by later bands like Metallica and Megadeth as an important early influence. And now, in 2007, Brian Tatler and co. are back with the stunning “What’s In Your Head?”. This is the follow up to the acclaimed album "All Will be Revealed" and, in true NWOBHM style, you can buy the album purely based on the cool cover and know that you're in store for a real treat. This is Diamond Head's second album with new singer Nick Tart and he certainly is an apt replacement for original vocalist Sean Harris. Opening track “Skin on Skin” acting as the ideal showcase for his impressive vocals, like Ian Astbury (The Cult) meets Chris Cornell (Soundgarden/Audioslave) with a bit of Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) thrown in as well. Overall What's In Your Head? mixes excellent metal riffs with a Zepplin-esque style of song writing. All the tracks on “Whats In Your Head?” are diverse, with each one of them standing out for different reasons. What is certain is that the likes if “Skin on Skin”, “Killing Me” and “Victim” will all be future Diamond Head classics that will stand alongside earlier classics such as “Am I Evil?” and “It's Electric”. Even after 31 years Diamond Head can still cut it better than acts half their age! |
